needed—whether it’s working
in the recyle/compost area or
serving up plates of food.

Relay for Life (2009-2010)
Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation—Run for the
Cure (2005-2010)
Ms. Horgan continues her
commitment to fundraise for
a cure for cancer by serving
as chair of the 2010 Relay for
Life as well as a co-chair of
team recruitment. She has
also laced up and hit the
streets as a volunteer for the
Run for the Cure.
• Habitat for Humanity
(2009-2010)
Ms. Horgan lent her motivational
skills and work ethic to two
Saint John area Habitat for
Humanity builds. The charity
builds affordable housing for
families in need.
Ms. Horgan’s voice and time is also
in high demand as an auctioneer
for breast cancer, St. Joseph’s
Hospital and Sea Belles’ fundraisers.
As a 1996 graduate of UNB’s
geological engineering program,
Tanya Horgan is one of only a
handful of APEGNB members who
have earned dual designations.
As an environmental manager
for Irving Oil’s environmentally
impacted sites throughout Atlantic
Canada, Ms. Horgan has represented
the company on various
volunteer initiatives including:
- The Atlantic Partnership in
RBCA Implementation (PIRI)
board. (The group developed
the risk-based guideline criteria
used in all Atlantic provinces
with respect to petroleumcontaminated
sites.)
- The New Brunswick Brownfield
Initiative Liability Working
Group. (The group came
together to create a working
strategy to deal with
brownfield sites throughout
New Brunswick.)
- Facilitation of indoor air quality
issues for insurance adjustors
Although she places importance
on volunteerism in the workplace,
Ms. Horgan’s passion for advancing
the professions of engineering
and geoscience is even greater.
She served as Councillor for
APEGNB’s Saint John District
from 2002 to 2005 while also
serving on the Saint John Branch
executive during the same period—
first as its vice-chair then as
Branch chair in 2004.
Ms. Horgan has also found time
to serve as a member, and/or,
chair of several Association
committees including:
- Continued Competency
Assurance (2007-2008)
- Finance (2005-2006)
- Equity and Diversity (2001-2003)
- Association Affairs (2001-2002)
- Annual Meeting (2002)
In 2005, she represented
Atlantic Canada on the Canadian
Engineering Qualification
Board’s environment and
sustainability committee.
In 2008, Ms. Horgan was elected
president of Engineers and
Geoscientists New Brunswick and
relished every opportunity to
raise the profile of the professions
at numerous outreach events
including delivering presentations
to the local Girl Guide/Brownie
troops and judging science fairs.
APEGNB is pleased to honour
Tanya Horgan, P.Eng./P.Geo., FEC,
with an APEGNB Citizenship Award
in recognition of her outstanding
fundraising efforts and steadfast
support of local hospitals, charitable
groups and youth activities.
