Riess: Please tell me about your family background. How and when did your parents
come here from Norway? And what are their names?
Kriken: My mother’s name was Ragnhild Marit Lund. I’ll have to spell it for you. And
Riess: Yes.
my father’s was Johan Eric Nord Kriken. And they came to America in the
mid-thirties. My father had been here before, and he had secured a job on a
merchant ship. I should mention that he was a captain of merchant ships and
traveled the world. In America, he transported petroleum products for
Standard Oil. And he was doing that, of course, in World War II to support the
Pacific war activities. Anyway, I could tell you a couple stories. By the way, is it
okay just to talk, and you’ll organize the interviews later?
Kriken: I don’t want to think sequentially or thematically if I don’t have to.
Riess: No.
