Instructors Tom Andrae, Ph.d., has taught at Uc <strong>Berkeley</strong> and San Francisco State <strong>University</strong>. He is the c<strong>of</strong>ounder <strong>of</strong> Discourse: Journal for Theoretical Studies in Media and Culture and the author <strong>of</strong> numerous books and articles in sociology and cultural studies. Dominic Angerame, m.F.A., director <strong>of</strong> canyon cinema, is an independent filmmaker whose more than 20 films have won awards at the San Francisco international, chicago international, and cork film festivals. He has been honored with a retrospective at the museum <strong>of</strong> modern Art in new York. Marisa Aragona, m.F.A., has had her work exhibited in new York, San Francisco, Washington, d.c., and Seattle at venues such as new Langton <strong>Arts</strong>, Pond Gallery, Photographic center northwest, and the diego rivera Gallery. Sarah Barsness, m.F.A., has taught at the San Francisco Art institute, diablo Valley college, and the Academy <strong>of</strong> Art <strong>University</strong>. She exhibits her installations, sculptures, prints, and drawings in the Bay Area and nationally. Amy Berk, m.F.A., is an artist, writer, and educator. She is coeditor and c<strong>of</strong>ounder <strong>of</strong> the art and culture Web journal Stretcher; runs the meridian interns Program, an innovative art education program for at-risk youth; and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Suzanne Biaggi, m.A., is a site-specific sculptor who has taught at San Francisco State <strong>University</strong> and the college <strong>of</strong> marin. Her work has been exhibited at the oakland Art museum and Southern exposure Gallery. Eva Bovenzi, m.F.A., has taught at Uc <strong>Berkeley</strong>, the San Francisco Art institute, california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong>, and San Francisco State <strong>University</strong>. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented in San Francisco by the toomey-tourell Gallery. Donald Bradford, m.F.A., has taught drawing and painting at Uc Santa Barbara and at the Academy <strong>of</strong> Art <strong>University</strong>. He has exhibited throughout the Bay Area and nationally, including a solo exhibit at Laguna Beach Art museum. David L. Brown, m.A., has produced, written, and directed documentaries since 1971 and taught video and filmmaking since 1986. His eight broadcast documentaries include Surfing for Life, Seniors for Peace, Bound by the Wind, and A Question <strong>of</strong> Power. Julie Charles, m.A., associate curator <strong>of</strong> education at the San Francisco museum <strong>of</strong> modern Art, has lectured and taught art history at SFmomA; the Fine <strong>Arts</strong> museums <strong>of</strong> San Francisco; the American <strong>University</strong>, Washington, d.c.; and the Academy <strong>of</strong> Art <strong>University</strong>. DeWitt Cheng, m.F.A., is an artist, art writer, and curator who has written for Artweek, ARTnews, art ltd., Coagula, Contemporary Impressions, and The <strong>California</strong> Printmaker. Ireneusz (Irek) Ciesiolkiewicz, m.Arch., is an artist and freelance designer. He has lectured on drawing, painting, and design at universities in europe and the United States since 1988. He has exhibited his work in the Bay Area, mexico, and england, and received several national and international awards. Terri Cohn, m.A., is a writer, curator, and art historian. She is a contributing editor to Artweek and has taught at San Francisco State <strong>University</strong>, Santa clara <strong>University</strong>, San Francisco Art institute, and california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong>. Beth Dungan, Ph.d., has taught modern and contemporary art history at Uc <strong>Berkeley</strong>, Stanford <strong>University</strong>, mills college, and california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong>. Christian Fagerlund, m.F.A., has taught painting and drawing at the UFt teacher center in new York. His work has been included in exhibitions in new York, california, and the French West indies. He is represented by 5+5 Gallery in new York. Santiago Gervasi, m.F.A., has taught at california State <strong>University</strong>, east Bay and the richmond Art center. His work is represented by cervini Hass Gallery in Scottsdale, Ariz., and SFmomA Artists Gallery in San Francisco. Sheila Ghidini, m.F.A., has taught at california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong>, San Francisco State <strong>University</strong>, and Uc <strong>Berkeley</strong>. She has exhibited her work throughout the United States and produced a public art commission for the city <strong>of</strong> emeryville. Glenn Hirsch, m.F.A., has taught at the San Francisco Art institute community education Program and John F. Kennedy <strong>University</strong>. He has exhibited in the United States and mexico, with reviews appearing in the Los Angeles Times and Artweek. Cynthia Ona Innis, m.F.A., has taught at Uc <strong>Berkeley</strong>, the San Francisco Art institute, San Francisco State <strong>University</strong>, and Boise State <strong>University</strong>. Her work is included in the permanent collections <strong>of</strong> the San Jose museum <strong>of</strong> Art and the <strong>Berkeley</strong> Art museum, and is represented locally by the Braunstein/Quay Gallery. Debra Koppman, Ph.d., has taught contemporary art history and theory at John F. Kennedy <strong>University</strong>. She is an editor for Artweek and author <strong>of</strong> Reclaiming the Spiritual in Art: Contemporary Cross Cultural Perspectives, and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Pamela Lanza, m.F.A., has taught at new mexico State <strong>University</strong> in Las cruces, the San Francisco School <strong>of</strong> Art, ASUc <strong>Berkeley</strong> Art Studio, and San Francisco Art institute extension. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and universities nationwide. Sean McFarland, m.F.A., has taught photography at california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong> and is the recipient <strong>of</strong> a Phelan Art Award in Photography. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. David Papas is a commercial and fine art photographer with a client list that includes HP, Ford motor company, and t-mobile. Larry Robinson, m.F.A., has taught painting, drawing, and color theory in the Bay Area since 1979. He is owner and director <strong>of</strong> oakdale Painting Studio in San Francisco. His work has been exhibited at the Phoenix museum <strong>of</strong> Art and throughout the Bay Area, including the dana reich Gallery in San Francisco and the claudia chapline Gallery in Stinson Beach. Josine Smits, Ph.d., has taught at california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong> and Stanford <strong>University</strong>. She received a master’s degree from the Sorbonne and a Ph.d. from Stanford for a dissertation on the landscapes <strong>of</strong> corot. She also studied the influence <strong>of</strong> Japanese art on the impressionists, at tokyo <strong>University</strong>. Michael Starkman, m.F.A., has been assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> art at Southeastern Louisiana <strong>University</strong> and edinboro <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania. His work is held in public and private collections including the Georgia museum, the Kennedy museum <strong>of</strong> Art, the Harry ransom Humanities research center, and the Hollar Gallery in Prague. Heather Wilcoxon, m.F.A., has taught at the San Francisco Art institute and california college <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arts</strong>. She exhibits nationally and is the recipient <strong>of</strong> awards by the Pollock-drasner Fellowship and marin <strong>Arts</strong> council, and a djerassi Artist-in-residence Fellowship. Jan Wurm, m.A., has taught and lectured at art institutions throughout california, and has exhibited her drawings and paintings nationally and internationally, including Los Angeles municipal Art Gallery; Southern exposure Gallery, San Francisco; and the royal college <strong>of</strong> Art, London. | 13
