Substitution <strong>of</strong> Courses<br />

students may substitute up to eight<br />

semester units in the curriculum. A<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> 16 <strong>of</strong> the required 24 units<br />

must be completed at Uc berkeley<br />

extension. Any substitution must be<br />

approved in writing by Uc berkeley<br />

extension. substitution requests must<br />

be submitted with <strong>of</strong>ficial academic<br />

transcripts and course descriptions from<br />

an accredited university or college. To be<br />

eligible for transfer, the course(s) must<br />

have been completed within the past 10<br />

years with a grade <strong>of</strong> b or better, be <strong>of</strong> an<br />

equivalent unit value, and substantially<br />

resemble in content the course that is<br />

being substituted.<br />

courses may also be waived based on<br />

a portfolio review, but students must<br />

complete an additional elective course<br />

<strong>of</strong> equivalent value in lieu <strong>of</strong> each course<br />

waived, in order that the total units required<br />

for the certificate program are met.<br />

All substitutions and waivers must be<br />

approved by the program director. exceptions<br />

to the substitution requirements may<br />

be approved by the department director.<br />

The Post-baccalaureate certificate in<br />

visual <strong>Arts</strong> program is housed in Uc<br />

berkeley extension’s south <strong>of</strong> Market<br />

(soMA) center in san francisco, 95 Third<br />

street, located near the san francisco<br />

Museum <strong>of</strong> Modern Art; MoAD, the Museum<br />

<strong>of</strong> the African Diaspora; and the center for<br />

the <strong>Arts</strong> at yerba buena gardens.<br />

The soMA center includes studio and<br />

lecture classrooms, an Art and Design<br />

library, and gallery/exhibition spaces.<br />
