Substitution of Courses
students may substitute up to eight
semester units in the curriculum. A
minimum of 16 of the required 24 units
must be completed at Uc berkeley
extension. Any substitution must be
approved in writing by Uc berkeley
extension. substitution requests must
be submitted with official academic
transcripts and course descriptions from
an accredited university or college. To be
eligible for transfer, the course(s) must
have been completed within the past 10
years with a grade of b or better, be of an
equivalent unit value, and substantially
resemble in content the course that is
being substituted.
courses may also be waived based on
a portfolio review, but students must
complete an additional elective course
of equivalent value in lieu of each course
waived, in order that the total units required
for the certificate program are met.
All substitutions and waivers must be
approved by the program director. exceptions
to the substitution requirements may
be approved by the department director.

The Post-baccalaureate certificate in
visual Arts program is housed in Uc
berkeley extension’s south of Market
(soMA) center in san francisco, 95 Third
street, located near the san francisco
Museum of Modern Art; MoAD, the Museum
of the African Diaspora; and the center for
the Arts at yerba buena gardens.
The soMA center includes studio and
lecture classrooms, an Art and Design
library, and gallery/exhibition spaces.
