Yoga: not just exercise By Jeff Wiebe For The Journal For Andrea Oliveri, yoga is much more than an exercise routine – it’s a way of life. Oliveri owns and operates Yoga Rituals in Lethbridge, while also running a similar organization in Toronto. She credits the ancient practice with changing her life, and she’s hoping to bring similar change to Lethbridge residents with an upcoming yoga teacher training course which will mark the first anniversary of her Lethbridge business. A trio of renowned Toronto-based yoga teachers will visit Lethbridge in March and April to impart their well-honed knowledge of Tantric Hatha and Kriya yoga as part of an intensive month-long seminar. “These are very ancient, very profound, and authentic to India,” explains Oliveri, adding that while the program is great for anyone interested in teaching yoga, it’s an ideal experience for people looking to take their yoga practice to the next level. “By doing something for 30 days, it’s kind of like an inner-city retreat. It’s quite an in-depth selftransformation – it’s a time of reflection, introspection, and purification,” she says. Participants will learn a variety of postures, chants, and development tech- niques to take forward with them in their everyday lives. “This is a way of people integrating something they can practice for the rest of their lives at home,” says Oliveri. “Yoga means ‘union’ between the body, mind and spirit, and sometimes you have to be taught how to influence that union through everything you do – from the way you brush your teeth to the way you Business Update Renovating: Essies Night Club .
