Council Achievement Awards

I’m sure you can all
think of someone in your
past whose true spirit
has inspired you to stand
taller and look beyond the
horizon … it may have
been a teacher, a neighbour,
a coach or a true friend.
Now it’s time to pause for
a moment and think about
recognizing and honouring
a sporting hero in our
community. If you know
an athlete, coach, sport
volunteer or official who
has gone that extra mile and
just won’t stop, the Lethbridge
Sport Council wants
to hear about them and
their outstanding achievements!
The Lethbridge Sport
Council is “a voice for
sport” in the community
and we represent many
different interest groups
related to sport. Through
member surveys conducted
in 2009 the concept of
community sport recognition
awards was identified.
We listened to our members
and established the criteria
and awards to respond to
the need for recognition
of our athletes, coaches,
volunteers and officials in
our community. What better
way to start 2011 than
by recognizing a sporting
hero in Lethbridge and
nominating them for the
First Annual Lethbridge
Sport Council Achievement
Awards.
The support structure
needed to provide positive
sport and recreation experiences
is many layers deep. It
takes a lot of people to run
an organization and 73% of

recognize the legacy of volunteerism

the dedication and commitment
of the athletes, the
sports organizations would
not be where they are at
today. So often, the drive of
the athlete sets in motion a
response to offer more - the
coaches, volunteers, officials
and parents further engage
in training and knowledge
in order to be able to
respond to the needs of the
athlete. The athlete leads by
example and their dedication
inspires and motivates
