18th Annual Antique & Classic Bicycle Auction 4/18/2009 LOT # came along with the quintuplet cycle originally used by Twentieth Century Fox in its 1943 movie, Sweet Rosie O'Grady. This dealer sold his complete collection in 1970 to the father of the son from whom I purchased this Hobby Horse. DATING: Dating to the 1st half of the 19th Century was ascertained with Paint Varnish Analysis (stereomicroscope, spectrometer and others) from an organization within the Canadian Federal Government -- The Canadian Conservation Institute, a division of Canadian Heritage. A detailed 7 page analysis and technical report of the paint was written on May 8, 2008 (full copy available upon request). CONDITION: The Hobby Horse has repainted wheels. The handlebar grips are modern additions. All other aspects as found. Ex SHIELDS Collection. This example was brought back by an uncle of the consigner from WWII in 1945. This machine appears to be very orig. and includes wooden handle bars, "Viscontea" saddle (cover worn), Siamt cranks, (replacement Schwinn pedals), Balilla brakes. Overall very good cond. (wheel hubs rusted, some broken spokes, decals good except for name badge - the part of the emblem with the Copake Auction Inc. LOT # fascist logo is "rubbed off", we understand that fascist symbols became an embarrassment and most of these transfers are altered.)
