allowed such a sinful person to love her, and she loathed herself for once loving him.
But after many sleepless nights, she came to the conclusion that Cesare had no option
but to defend himself from her husband, Alfonso. Would she have been able to live with
Alfonso, if her husband had succeeded in killing her brother? The entire event made her
unable to think: weak and dejected, all she could do was feed the tangle of confusion
at the back of her mind. She began to imagine that Pope Alexander was going through
similarly confusing thoughts. She felt desire for her father for a moment. It was at that
moment that she was told that the Pope had sent a messenger to her from Pope. At first
she said that she did not receive any visitors and was still mourning the death of her
husband. But later she relented and asked the messenger to be brought in to see her.
would revolt her. Once she got over the initial shock of seeing a skin color that was so
dark, she began to find the pigmentation intriguing. To enjoy the contrast of their skins,
she placed her wrist next to hers.
“It has been a long day, Lucrezia. Yet there are still church affairs to do,” the Pope
said, rising. “There are Cardinal disputes to settle. Rome is getting richer, yet more
greedy by the second.” Both Lucrezia and Doudu rose together, Doudu supporting her
with his sinewy muscles, almost lifting her off the ground completely before settling her
gently on her feet. She felt like a baby in totally capable care.
