it. One day, as he slept in an abandoned cave in the woods, we was suddenly woken up by loud shrieks. He slowly crept to the entrance of the cave, and saw, a strange- looking large cat tearing to shreds the body of a big mountain goat. The goat was mothering two tiny kids who stood helpless and watched as the cat demolished their mother, who was trying protect them. As soon as the cat killed the mother, it pounced on the nearest kid. The second kid hesitated for a moment then sped into the woods as fast as its legs could carry it. The cat did not bother to go after the fleeing kid. It simply began to rend and devour the carcasses, starting with the more tender kid. Soon about six other cats joined in, and a wild feasting fiesta began, with the beasts snapping at each other and making blood-cuddling noises as they fought for every scrap of the goats. In less than an hour, every piece of meat and bone had disappeared. The beasts licked the blood that fell on the grass and cleaned the entire scene of every evidence that a feasting just happened. They quietly trotted into the woods, and disappeared from Doudu’s sight. Doudu was happy that the animals did not come in his direction, because he was trapped in the cave and there was no outlet, except through the narrow entrance to the cave, through which he had to crawl to enter the cave. He would have been in real trouble if the cats found the cave and crawled inside. He learnt a lesson from the experience. He would never sleep in a cave that had no outlet from which he could escape, if a predator somehow entered the cave. Secondly, he would always make sure that the entrance to the cave was blocked, and that the escape hole was concealed. One had to take risks when on the run, but one must not make stupid mistakes, or the end would come suddenly and tragically. Hours after the cats disappeared, his nostrils caught a strange smell, and soon he
saw the kid goat that escaped the cats returning to the scene of the massacre. It took one timid step after another, and finally got to the spot where its mother and sibling were killed. It smelled the grass that had been neatly licked by the cats. Then it slowly left the spot without making a sound. It slid through the narrow entrance, and got into the room of the cave where it stood up, motionless. Doudu kept staring at the kid goat. The goat then took some small steps, and soon was lying down beside Doudu, snuggling up close to him for warmth and comfort. Doudu felt the trembling muscles of the scared kid goat against his body. As if with fear, the entire body of the goat trembled for a couple of hours, gradually calming down as night descended, and Doudu felt he had to move along on his journey. But first he had to find some food and water. He crawled out of the cave, but the kid goat crawled out with him and began to follow him. Doudu was walking fast, and the goat was trotting silently after him, its feet making no sound as he moved. Doudu also was moving soundlessly, and was happy that the goat made no sound. Soon they arrived at an isolated farmhouse with signs of life, and he decided to see what he could steal from the house.
