Like a drawing rendered in crayon
Cassava and yam tubers
Flourish in ample numbers
With staves taller
And leaver held higher
Than a man’s head
Proudly cocked strolling ahead
Amidst growing fruits and nuts
Fires trailing out of the huts
Small, neat, finished in yellow ochers
In small communal orchards
Near larger family homes.
Where domestic life roams
Further beyond kaolin river
With a hill nearly tipping over
After red rock
And the black ducks
With seven waterfalls
Plunging aquatic warriors
Are laid large banana farms
With oil palms and coconut fans
Held open and proud
Handy sun and rain shrouds
Like royal umbrellas
For poor fellas.
At village festivals
And country palavers.
