Participants said they<br />
were happy to have fun while<br />
supporting two great charities.<br />
“Any time I can dress like<br />
a reindeer and run down the<br />
beach without anybody doing<br />
anything about it, I’m in,”<br />
Patti Roberts of La Costa said.<br />
Eleven-year-old Jack<br />
Knowles of Carlsbad<br />
described the run as awesome,<br />
while his 8-year-old<br />
brother, Christopher, said it<br />
was tiring but fun. <strong>The</strong><br />
Carlsbad residents, who were<br />
participating in the event for<br />
the third time, said getting out<br />
of school early was an added<br />
Recreation TRUST Program,<br />
which stands for Teaching<br />
Respect, Unity and<br />
Sportsmanship through<br />
Teamwork.”<br />
San Diego United finished<br />
the season 11-1-0, playing<br />
their games on Monday<br />
nights.<br />
“<strong>The</strong>y have encompassed<br />
a three-season record of 42-2-2.<br />
Head Coach Jim Smith, who<br />
has been at the helm for all<br />
bonus.<br />
During its first year, the<br />
Red Nose Run attracted 35<br />
runners and raised $5,000.<br />
Last year 200 participants<br />
helped bring in about $18,000.<br />
Fresh Start provides free<br />
reconstructive surgery for disadvantaged<br />
children and<br />
young adults with physical<br />
deformities caused by birth<br />
defects, accidents, abuse or<br />
disease.<br />
Established in May 2004,<br />
the Injured Marine Semper Fi<br />
Fund provides financial assistance<br />
for Marines and sailors,<br />
as well as Army, Air Force and<br />
<strong>Coast</strong> Guard members who<br />
serve in support of Marine<br />
forces when they become<br />
injured in post-9/11 combat or<br />
training operations or if they<br />
face life-threatening illness or<br />
injury.<br />
