MESSAGES FROM THE PRESIDENT & DIRECTOR
PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Throughout the Junior League of Baltimore’s 95 year history,
our organization has changed the lives of the women who
have been our members, enhanced the lives of the recipients
of our community programs, and elevated the communities
in which we volunteer.
This year, in particular, our organization has embraced the
opportunity to change. We established new fundraisers and
through our strategic planning process created a new framework
for our future fundraising efforts.
In our community we launched the new School Parental
Engagement Program and transitioned our Women’s Mentoring
Program into an internship at our Wise Penny thrift store. In the
area of technology we researched and contracted our new
website and database. This change will allow the organization
to communicate more effectively to both prospective and
current active and sustaining members, and to build capacity
for future needs.
Finally, we broke ground and started construction on our
Building Opportunities Project which encompasses the renovation
of our Wise Penny Thrift Store and addition of a second
floor Headquarters and Community space. This new building will
create further potential for change by expanding our capacity
for membership, leadership development, and programming.
Looking back, 2007-2008 was a time of transition, and the
decisions we made during the time will move the League
forward to meet our strategic vision of “a group of dedicated
and invested women headquartered in Govans who are recognized
and respected for collectively making a positive impact
in Baltimore through volunteerism and civic leadership.”

donors for helping us achieve our vision and make it a reality!

DIRECTOR’S LETTER
This past year, the Junior League of Baltimore reflected upon
and celebrated our long and proud history of service to Baltimore.
While honoring our past, we challenge ourselves to
strike a balance between preserving tradition and adjusting
to our ever-changing world to reach our fullest potential.
Our members give this organization its power to serve our
communities. It is through their leadership and development
that we continue to grow our impact to the community. By
investing in each member, we are creating civic leaders for
Baltimore, both in and out of our organization. But this work
cannot be done alone. To continue to strengthen our impact,
we need to not only invest within our membership, but to
continue to build strong collaborations outside of it. This
past year marked many new and strengthened partnerships.
We continued our work with the Allstate Foundation in
support of our Women’s Mentoring Program / Wise Penny
Internship. We welcomed new partners for our Kids in the
Kitchen Program, including Kaiser Permanente, Trader Joe’s
and the Ravens Foundation, while continuing our partnership
with Port Discovery. Our Health Fair was augmented by
the support of sponsor MedStar Health and Union Memorial
Hospital. Our Boutique Warehouse Sale has generated tens
of new partners in local boutique owners for this growing
fundraiser and to support our Wise Penny Store year-round.
Lastly, the overwhelming support that the Junior League of
Baltimore has received for our Building Opportunities Project
enables us to secure our future with a facility to continue to
train new civic leaders and proudly serve our community and
to reach our potential through change.
