Tan Sri Dato’ Musa bin Hitam<br />
Chairman, Independent Non-Executive Director<br />
Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Musa bin Hitam, a Malaysian, aged 71, was appointed a Director and Chairman of the Board on<br />
10 August 1995. He is also the Chairman of the Company’s Nomination Committee.<br />
Tan Sri Musa received his Bachelors degree from the University of Malaya and his Masters degree from the University<br />
of Sussex. He has since been awarded with various honours, including Honorary Doctorates from the University of<br />
Sussex and Universiti Sabah Malaysia, and fellowships from the Malaysian Institute of Management and the Centre For<br />
International Affairs, Harvard University.<br />
Tan Sri Musa has held various posts at international level at various times. <strong>The</strong>se included membership of the<br />
Commonwealth Ministers Action <strong>Group</strong> when he visited Nigeria, Pakistan, Fiji, <strong>The</strong> Gambia and Sierra Leone. Tan Sri<br />
Musa also led the Commonwealth Observer <strong>Group</strong> to the Pakistan General Elections that was held in September-<br />
October 2002.<br />
Before becoming Malaysia’s fifth Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs in 1981 and 1986 respectively,<br />
Tan Sri Musa was Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya, Chairman of Federal Land Development Authority,<br />
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Minister of Primary Industries and Minister of Education. Between 1990 and<br />
1991, he was Malaysia’s Special Envoy to the United Nations and since 1995, he has been the Prime Minister’s Special<br />
Envoy to the Commonwealth Ministerial Action <strong>Group</strong>. Tan Sri Musa also led the Malaysian delegation to the United<br />
Nations Commission on Human Rights from 1993 to 1998 and was elected Chairman of the Commission in 1995. At<br />
the national level, Tan Sri Musa had served as the Chairman of the Malaysian National Commission on Human Rights<br />
from 2000 to 2002. Tan Sri Musa is a member of the United Malays National Organisation and had held various<br />
positions within the party up to Deputy President until 1987.<br />
Tan Sri Musa is also the Chairman of Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, a public listed company.<br />
During the financial year, Tan Sri Musa attended all five (5) Board Meetings held.<br />
Datuk Cheng Yong Kim<br />
Managing Director, Non-Independent Executive Director<br />
Y. Bhg. Datuk Cheng Yong Kim, a Singaporean, aged 55, was appointed the Managing Director of the Company on 16<br />
January 1995. He is also a member of the Company’s Remuneration Committee.<br />
Datuk Cheng obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) degree from University of Singapore in 1971.<br />
He has more than 25 years of experience in the business operations of the <strong>Lion</strong> <strong>Group</strong> encompassing steel, motor, tyre,<br />
computer, retail, trading, pulp and paper, plantation, and property and community development. For a period of seven<br />
years from 1988 to 1995, he was the Managing Director of <strong>Lion</strong> Fasteners Sdn Bhd, a company engaged in the business<br />
of manufacturing bolts and nuts. In 1990, he took up the role of President in P T <strong>Lion</strong> Metal Works Tbk, a manufacturer<br />
of steel furniture, building material and stamping products in Indonesia. He resigned from <strong>Lion</strong> Fasteners Sdn Bhd in<br />
1995 to take on the position of Managing Director of the Company. In 1996, he was appointed the Executive Director<br />
of the Ceemax and the Likom group of companies which are involved in the manufacturing and marketing of computers,<br />
monitors and peripherals.<br />
Datuk Cheng’s other <strong>directors</strong>hips in public companies are as follows:<br />
Director of Silverstone Corporation Berhad and <strong>Lion</strong> Corporation Berhad, both public listed companies<br />
Director of Hy-Line Berhad, a public company<br />
Datuk Cheng has a direct shareholding of 1,600,689 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each and an indirect shareholding of<br />
299,998,443 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each in the Company. Datuk Cheng’s shareholdings in the subsidiary companies<br />
of the Company are disclosed in page 116 of this Annual Report. He also has interest in certain companies which<br />
conduct similar business with the Company in the property development sector.<br />
Datuk Cheng is the nephew of Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Cheng Heng Jem, a major shareholder of the Company, and his brother,<br />
Mr Cheng Yong Liang is also a Director of the Company.<br />
During the financial year, Datuk Cheng attended all five (5) Board Meetings held.<br />
