Welcome to Brandon!
After a lot of thought and discussion amongst ourselves it seemed like moving National Trust to another
large hub of Simmental was the right thing to do. This gives more breeders the opportunity to participate
in the breed’s highest profile event. Mission accomplished! And yet,we still have a great representation
from other provinces. This central Canadian location is somewhat more convenient for more to attend.
The National Trust was designed by nature to enhance the value of Canadian Simmental breeding genetics.
The early date, relative to the other fall sales, is purposeful as it wouldn’t make sense to have it following
the bulk of the traditional fall consignment sales. The idea is, National Trust makes the rest of them worth
more. You can’t help but wonder what these cattle would bring if they were sold in December! However,
as mentioned, they make the rest worth more.
This will no doubt be your biggest opportunity of the year, if not for a long time, to rub shoulders with more
breeders from across the country than other time. The Keystone Centre in Brandon is a great facility to
operate in with a connected hotel, lounges, restaurants and the Brandon Wheat Kings!
It appears we are in “boom times” in the cattle business and fortunately for all of us the Simmental breed
was on top when the overall business was apparently distressed. We will stay as economic leaders because
of the breeder core, which is always been known for being the best “people breed”. I think the only
question is, “How good do you want it to be?”. The answer lies in the breeder core again. Use National
Trust to strengthen the other sales, support and maintain existing sales by buying and selling at them.
Resist temptation to create new female sales as there are less people to draw from as consignors, just
make what we have better. Yes, that’s right, you just read a sale manager write that! I hope that only further
validates our dedication to this breed.
Our strength is in unity. Let’s keep it classy, dignified, ethical and thusly profitable.
