a) a basic understanding of the hazards associated with the marine environment and<br />
their own vessel;<br />
b) the knowledge necessary to raise and react to alarms and deal with the initial<br />
stage of an emergency;<br />
c) an ability to provide assistance in fire, abandonment and other emergency<br />
situations;<br />
d) the knowledge and skills to assist in their own survival and rescue;<br />
e) the ability to knowledgeably follow orders from the vessel’s officers in<br />
emergency situations.
