As a league, the ACC returns 40 of last year’s 60<br />
regular starting players and 97 letterwinners for<br />
the 2012-13 season.<br />
Six teams -- Boston College, Clemson, Duke,<br />
Florida State, Maryland and Virginia Tech -- each<br />
return four starters from last season.<br />
Thirteen of the ACC’s Top 20 scorers and four of the<br />
Top 10 return from a year ago, including 2011-12<br />
ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas of Maryland,<br />
who led the league in scoring at 17.2 ppg.<br />
Eight out of a possible 15 players who received<br />
All-ACC first-, second-, or third-team honors return<br />
for the 2011-12 season, including three of the five<br />
first team members in Maryland’s Thomas, 2011-<br />
12 ACC Freshman of the Year Elizabeth Williams of<br />
Duke and her Blue Devil teammate, Chelsea Gray.<br />
The 12 ACC schools are represented by 216 years<br />
of experience as Miami boasts a league-high 25<br />
years of letterwinners’ experience, including three<br />
returning senior starters<br />
The ACC returns 13 starters that participated in the<br />
2012 NCAA Championship, and 22 of the 40 starters<br />
from all postseason play last season.<br />
Thirty-seven (37) ACC players return to the hardwood<br />
after registering at least one double-double<br />
in 2011-12. The list includes Florida State’s Natasha<br />
Howard, who posted a league-high 12.<br />

The Maryland tandem of Tianna Hawkins and<br />
Alyssa Thomas posted a combined 21 doubledoubles<br />
in 2011-12 and enter this season with a<br />
combined 39 for their careers.<br />
Four members of the 2011-12 All-ACC Defensive<br />
Team return, led by rising sophomore Elizabeth<br />
Williams of the Duke, last season’s ACC Defensive<br />
Player of the Year. Also named the ACC and<br />
National Freshman of the Year, Williams notched<br />
a freshman record 116 blocked shots and ranked<br />
fourth nationally with a 3.5 per game average.<br />
She became the first league freshman to be named<br />
ACC Defensive Player of the Year and only the third<br />
freshman to be voted to the All-ACC First Team.<br />
According to ESPN’s HoopGurlz’s analysis of<br />
incoming recruiting classes, the ACC will welcome<br />
six of the nation’s top 25 freshmen this season,<br />
including Duke’s Alexis Jones (ranked No. 3),<br />
Maryland’s Malina Howard (No. 8), Clemson’s Jonquel<br />
Jones (No. 17), Maryland’s Tierney Pfirman<br />
(No. 23), Georgia Tech’s Aaliyah Whiteside (No. 24)<br />
and North Carolina’s Xylina McDaniel (No. 26)<br />
In addition to last season’s leading scorer<br />
(Maryland’s Thomas), the ACC welcomes back<br />
last season’s leaders in field goal percentage<br />
(Maryland’s Hawkins), assists (Duke’s Gray),<br />
3-point percentage (Duke’s Tricia Liston), blocked<br />
shots (Duke’s Williams) and offensive rebounds<br />
(Maryland’s Hawkins).<br />
