Jen Hoover
Jennifer Hoover, a former star player at Wake Forest from 1987-91, became the 10th head coach in
Demon Deacon history in May, 2012… An inductee into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Hoover was
selected as one of the ACC’s top-50 all-time players in 2003… Hoover was selected to the All-ACC team
three times and still holds the program records for points and rebounds…As a player, she led the Deacs
to the only NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 1988, when they made it to the second
round...Prior to returning to Winston Salem, Hoover made her head coaching debut at High Point in
2011-12 where she led the Panthers to their only the appearance in the WNIT in school history and was
recognized as the Spalding Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year…The Panthers posted a
20-12 record, tying for the most by a High Point squad as a Division I program…Before taking over as
head coach at High Point, Hoover was an assistant at Cal, Memphis, and Virginia…At Cal, she lead the
Bears to the first NCAA Sweet Sixteen in school history in 2009 and then to the 2010 WNIT Championship
and coached All-Americans Ashley Walker and Devanei Hampton… As recruiting coordinator for the
Cavaliers, Hoover signed two top-15 classes in 2005 and 2006, which propelled Virginia to two 20-win
seasons…Beginning her coaching career in 1994, Hoover started with the University of Missouri-Kansas
City before spending two years at Virginia Commonwealth, two at East Carolina, and two at James
Madison…Hoover competed professionally in Sweden for one year after finishing her collegiate career,
and then played with Athletes in Action on the USA Fall Exhibition Tour and the Australian Spring Tour
in 1993…As a student-athlete, Hoover was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
