During <strong>Your</strong> <strong>Stay</strong><br />

Telephones are located at each bedside, except in critical care areas. Incoming calls can<br />

be received from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. You may place outgoing calls at any time. If you need a<br />

TTY or other assistive device, please let your nurse know.<br />

Local calls<br />

� Calls within the 415 area code are free of charge – Dial 9 + seven-digit local number<br />

To reach the hospital operator<br />

� Dial 0, then press 0 again at the automated prompt<br />

To reach a toll-free number<br />

� Calls to 800, 888, 866 and other toll-free area codes are free of charge<br />

Dial 9 + 1 + 800 + seven-digit number<br />

Long-distance calls<br />

Charges for calls outside the local area (415) are based on time of day, location called,<br />

duration of call, and payment method. You can charge your call to:<br />

� A calling card from your long-distance carrier<br />

� American Express, Diners Club, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, etc.<br />

� A third party (e.g. your home telephone number)<br />

Long-distance calls within the United States<br />

� Dial 7 + 0 + (area code) + seven-digit number<br />

Long-distance calls to an international location<br />

� Dial 7 + 0 + 0, then enter the international phone number (starting with 011)<br />

as instructed by the automated prompt<br />

Calling cards are sold at our gift shop in the medical center lobby.<br />

All long-distance services are provided by AT&T.<br />

Use of cellular telephones and wireless communications devices (PDAs, wireless network<br />

computers, etc.) is permitted in most areas of the medical center, except in specific<br />

patient-care areas. Signs are clearly posted in areas where the use of these electronic<br />

devices is not permitted. Also, cell phones and other wireless communications devices<br />

must be turned off when within one foot of any electronic medical device in the medical<br />

center. As a courtesy to others, please limit your cell phone use, speak in a low voice and<br />

set the ringer to vibrate or low. To protect the privacy of others, you may not use camera<br />

phones or other cameras to take pictures within the hospital without the consent of those<br />

being photographed.
