Welcome to <strong>UCSF</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. Our staff is dedicated to providing you the highest<br />

quality health care available and to making your visit with us as comfortable as possible.<br />

This guide will help prepare you and your family for your hospital stay.<br />

Before you arrive at the hospital, please take some time to read this information, discuss it<br />

with your family and friends, and bring it with you when you come to the hospital. Please<br />

<strong>UCSF</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong> is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care,<br />

known for compassionate patient care as well as developing and utilizing the latest breakthroughs<br />

in medical technology. As a teaching hospital, we provide special services not<br />

available at community hospitals.<br />

Today, our expertise covers virtually all areas of medicine, including cancer, heart disease,<br />

organ transplantation, orthopedics, neurosciences and special services for women and<br />

children. We are ranked by U.S.News & World Report as one of the top 10 hospitals in the<br />

nation. Our more than 1000 doctors not only have access to the latest technologies, but<br />

they are often the ones who develop them.<br />

The maps included on pages 16 and 17 of this packet describe how to get to <strong>UCSF</strong><br />

<strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. These pages also contain parking instructions and information on public<br />

transportation. To help our patients and visitors more easily fi nd their way around all our<br />

clinic sites, we have a user friendly system of signs, maps and onsite kiosks. <strong>For</strong> more<br />

Parking in the eight-level <strong>UCSF</strong> parking garage (see map on page 16) is approximately<br />

$3.50 per hour, $28 daily maximum. This garage is open 24 hours a day. There are two<br />

garage entrances – one on the north side of Parnassus Avenue and another on Irving<br />

Street and Second Avenue, just east of Third Avenue. Valet parking is available Monday<br />

through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of <strong>Medical</strong> Building 1 (see page 16).<br />

There is another garage located at 350 Parnassus Ave. This garage is only open Monday<br />

through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fee is $4 every 30 minutes, $22 daily maximum.<br />

Metered street parking is very limited in the neighborhood and restricted to two hours in<br />

most areas. Please be aware of posted signs to avoid ticketing and towing. Families are<br />

encouraged to arrange rides to and from the hospital to avoid parking costs.
