Preparing for Your Stay
If your hospitalization was scheduled in advance, your doctor’s office will notify you of
your admission date and what time to arrive at the medical center. Your doctor may also
schedule outpatient medical tests such as laboratory studies or X-rays. These tests will be
performed at the hospital and usually take place the week before your admission.
If you must cancel or delay admission, please contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Before scheduling your admission, your doctor’s office will obtain approval from your
insurance company. An admitting counselor will call you before your admission to review
your insurance benefits. You will also be contacted if any payment is due at the time of your
admission. UCSF Medical Center will bill your insurance company directly. You will be
billed for any part of your hospital fees not covered by your insurance company. If you
have any questions or have financial concerns, please call Financial Counseling from
8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
