As a logical step following his
Kjellberg founded ESAB. Since
then, the company has constantly
improved on existing methods and
materials. At the same time, ESAB
has developed new methods to meet
the challenge presented by
technological progress.
Today the company produces
consumables and equipment for
virtually every welding and cutting
process and application.
More than 100 years of continuous
research, development and
manufacture have made ESAB a
world leader in welding, cutting and
also an international supplier of
products, know-how and services
that none can match. ESAB's
Pioneering packaging
We have set new technical/environmental packaging
material standards with Vacpac TM for low hydrogen/
energy conservation and Marathon Pac TM for
improved feedability and simplified recycling.
Phasing out unwanted substances
ESAB supplies a wide range of copper-free rods and
wires, which deliver improved welding properties as
well as better working conditions with reduced
environmental impact.
Setting new global standards
Quality, safety and the environment are three key areas of focus.
Continuous improvement is usually
impossible to maintain without a
structured management system in place.
ISO 14001 is the international standard
for Environmental Management System.
The purpose of the standard is to provide
organisations with a frame work for an
effective management system and to help
them fulfil their policies to achieve
environmental and economic goals.
In 1999, ESAB became the first supplier of
welding products with an ISO 14001
certified production unit, and in the
beginning of 2006 ESAB achieved a
group-wide ISO 14001 certification of our
Environmental Management System.
While many thousands of companies
around the world have already achieved
ISO 14001 certification somewhere, ESAB
is one of very few global companies to
have achieved ISO 14001:2004
certification everywhere. This is believed to
be a world first for the welding and cutting
industry. The scope of the group certificate
comprises design, development,
production, sales and services of welding
and cutting products.
We have also gained OHSAS 18001 group
certification from DNV which along with our
ISO14001 certification is believed to be the
most comprehensive certification achieved
by any global company to date. It includes
all production operations, sales and central
functions within ESAB at 1 July 2007.
QSet TM
QSet TM means even the most challenging welds
turn out just right. It maintains a perfect arc even
within inside corners. The QSet TM induced arc
means consistent penetration throughout the
welding process leading to a perfect weld - first time
and every time. Higher quality is easily achievable
with far less effort, whilst also increasing efficiency
and overall productivity.
Quality
At ESAB, quality is an ongoing process
that is at the heart of all our production
processes and facilities worldwide.
Multinational manufacturing, local
representation and an international
network of independent distributors
brings the benefits of ESAB quality and
unrivalled expertise in materials and
processes within reach of all our
customers, wherever they are located.
ESAB are a registered ISO 9001
quality assured company.
ISO 9001 is by far the world's most
established quality framework
currently being used by around
897,000 organisations in 170
countries worldwide.
The ESAB Product Portfolio
No other company in welding and cutting offers such
a comprehensive and complete range. And with
that extensive product offering, comes considerable
competence to support our customers.
It sets the standard not only for quality
management systems, but
management systems in general.
ISO9001 helps all kinds of
organisations succeed through
improved customer satisfaction, staff
motivation and continual improvement.
ESAB putting customers first
ESAB Backs ShipWeld Competition
ESAB UK is the proud sponsor of ShipWeld, an
inaugural competition in which shipyards compete
against each other to demonstrate the welding skills
of their apprentices.
This is the first national competition of its kind and
has brought positive benefits in terms of developing
and encouraging skills within the sector.
The first ShipWeld competition was held in 2009 with
the finals in November at BAE Systems Submarine
Solutions in Barrow-in-Furness.
Four UK yards competed in the competitions first
year, BAE Systems Submarine Solutions in
Barrow-in-Furness, BAE Surface Ships North -
Govan, BAE Surface Ships South - Portsmouth and
Babcock Marine Rosyth.
Since 2009 ESAB has helped the competition
grow even further. Now in 2012 there are two
additional yards now participating, Babcock Marine
Appledore and Cammel Laird Birkenhead.
ShipWeld is a two-part competition. The first
stage being internal yard competitions whereby
the trainees compete against each other. The
winner and runner up of each yard then go through
to the second stage which is the ShipWeld final
where they face a series of craft challenges using
MIG/MAG and MMA techniques
ESAB are delighted to be involved with
ShipWeld as it represents a clear commitment by
UK shipbuilders. It encourages the development
of welding skills within the sector and brings out
the competitive spirit in young apprentice welders.
