LOHARDAGA<br />

population of thirty thousand of twenty-seven villages had been covered with the aim of<br />

improving the overall maternal and child health status. It had been targeted its interventions<br />

at three critical stages of pregnancy, childhood and adolescent health. In this context the<br />

community participation had been ensured through Village Health Committees and 109<br />

Sahiyya who worked as change agents. During this reporting year, health camps had been<br />

organized to identify the high risk mothers in six sub-centers. Pathological tests had also<br />

been done for them. Training on RTI / STI, HIV / AIDS and on adolescent health had been<br />

done. Under this project adolescent groups had been formed. Awareness had been spread<br />

to reduce the high rate of Anemia among the women in the project target area. Other<br />

than these, regular convergence had been ensured with different state endeavour towards<br />

achieving the same objectives.<br />

During the year, another RCH programme has also been implemented with the support<br />

from CCF India. The main thrust area of this project was on nutrition, adolescent health and<br />

reproductive hygiene, safe abortion, family planning, RTI / STI, infertility, menopause, and<br />

community participation in this health initiative. As this project started in this year only, the<br />

project team members had given training for addressing these issues effi ciently and on P D<br />

Hearth, and detailed survey of ten villages had been done. Meetings of DLAC, BLAC, ANMs<br />

and AWWs had also been organized to streamline the community health services. During<br />

this year four hundred ninety-fi ve children had been given deworming medication.<br />

A major reason for anemia, ill health and mortality in women is due to unsafe means of abortion<br />

practices, which are still prevalent in rural areas. This project Kalyani had been implemented<br />

with the support from IPAS. Its objective is to promote awareness on safe abortion services<br />

with special focus on early and legal aspects of seeking abortion services through behavior<br />

change communication. This project is in the starting phase of implementation. Till date<br />

sensitization at block level, ANMs, AWWs and Sahhiyas were conducted. In the district level<br />

sensitization meeting, participation of civil surgeon and medical offi cers of all the 5 blocks<br />

participated. The block level sensitization meetings are also getting good support from the<br />

medical offi cers and CDPOs. Home visits and group meetings are regularly carried out in the<br />

villages for awareness generation regarding safe abortion practices. To advocate district and<br />

block level health functionaries to provide comprehensive abortion care services and involve<br />

community health worker on the issue. We are getting support of district administration for<br />

carrying out the message.<br />
