<strong>LGSS</strong><br />

ICDS and PHC. Through these social audits, sensitization of the common villagers had also<br />

been done regarding their rights and entitlement of state welfare services.<br />

Mental Health Programme<br />

Since the year 2002, <strong>LGSS</strong> has been working among the mentally ill people in fi fty-six villages<br />

of Bhandra block of <strong>Lohardaga</strong> district with the objective of identifying, curing, normalizing<br />

and rehabilitating them in their own home / village. This project is supported by NBJK/Basics<br />

Need. Sensitization had been done under this programme among the family members and<br />

the community members of the patients towards psychological treatment; taking care and<br />

they had been linked with medical institutes like RINPAS at Ranchi. At present 185 mentally ill<br />

people are registered under the project, of which 117 mentally ill people are getting regular<br />

monthly check ups at RINPAS, Ranchi. Under the rehabilitation programme, 53 cured people<br />

had been provided with revolving fund for setting up their own small business units.<br />

Elimination of Female Foeticide & Promotion of Birth Registration<br />

Programme (KOPAL)<br />

<strong>LGSS</strong> had been working for generating awareness regarding female foeticide aiming at the<br />

complete elimination of it in the society as well as for awareness building for compulsory birth<br />

registration. Quarterly PNDT meetings had been organized with the District Commissioners<br />

and CSs of Gumla and <strong>Lohardaga</strong>. Meetings of youth groups had been organized to sensitize<br />

the people both in <strong>Lohardaga</strong> and Gumla. District Level Sensitization Workshops had also<br />

been organized in Gumla to sensitize the government offi cials as well as the common mass. DC<br />

Gumla inaugurated the workshop at Gumla. In these two districts, capacity building trainings<br />

for Panchayat Sevak and ICDS Supervisors had been also conducted. This programme was<br />

supported by Plan International (India) and NBJK, Hazaribagh.<br />

Community Based Rehabilitation<br />

With the support of CBR Forum, Bangalore, <strong>LGSS</strong> has been working in 56 villages of Bhandra<br />

block of <strong>Lohardaga</strong> for community based rehabilitation of persons with disability. The<br />

program covers persons who are visually impaired, hearing and speech impaired, mentally<br />

ill, Autism and cerebral palsy. <strong>Our</strong> primary focus is for the main streaming of these disabled<br />

persons through medication, education and social rehabilitation. Also sensitization of<br />

targeted communities and prevention through awareness generation are also being carried<br />

out. In the block, 849 Persons have been identifi ed with disabilities. 22 PWDs linked with<br />

2008-2009
