— which now number around 3,500 — have been <strong>the</strong> foundations<br />

of Van Dyke’s bus<strong>in</strong>ess philosophy from <strong>the</strong> start.<br />

In addition to be<strong>in</strong>g active <strong>in</strong> his church, he helps sponsor American<br />

Legion baseball, <strong>the</strong> local Humane Society chapter, <strong>the</strong> Fayette<br />

County junior Fair, <strong>the</strong> local high school athletic program, South Central<br />

ohio Big Bro<strong>the</strong>rs Big Sisters, <strong>the</strong> local kids’ fish<strong>in</strong>g derby, junior<br />

Achievement and <strong>the</strong> Fayette County Sheriff’s Safety Pup program.<br />

“We love sponsor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>family</strong>-oriented, wholesome activities <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> community,” Van Dyke says. “It’s important that you have a<br />

conscience, that you strive to do a good job, and that you give<br />

back to <strong>the</strong> community any way you can. It’s <strong>the</strong> right th<strong>in</strong>g to do.<br />

And when you run your bus<strong>in</strong>ess that way, people are happy to<br />

refer you to <strong>the</strong>ir friends.”<br />

Be<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>ACDelco</strong> Total Service Support (TSS) member helps<br />

as well. Bus<strong>in</strong>ess has been so good, <strong>in</strong> fact, that he’s recently<br />

expanded to a new 6,800-square-foot facility with seven bays.<br />

The staff has grown to 12 employees, which <strong>in</strong>clude Van Dyke’s<br />

son raymond, who has taken <strong>the</strong> position of service advisor, and<br />

Van Dyke’s wife, Merleen, who handles account<strong>in</strong>g, public relations<br />

and advertis<strong>in</strong>g. Van Dyke is now able to spend more time<br />

manag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess and help<strong>in</strong>g wherever needed.<br />

While orange and black may have been <strong>the</strong> colors of <strong>the</strong> day<br />

when he opened <strong>the</strong> doors to his new facility on Halloween 2005,<br />

Van Dyke choose <strong>ACDelco</strong>’s highly recognized color scheme — a<br />

red, white and blue motif — for <strong>the</strong> lobby, exterior and shop areas.<br />
