CEWE Q3 results of FY 2012 in line with our expectations
- ground prepared in first nine months for an outstanding Q4 -
guidance confirmed - share remains a solid value play
Facts: CEWE has released Q3 figures for fiscal year 2012.
Sales increased by 2% to EUR124.1m (2011: EUR121.8m).
Sales growth was mainly driven by CEWE´s new online printing
activities and CEWE Photobooks (+12.8%). EBIT was down one
fifth to EUR 7.1m (2011: EUR 8.9m) mainly caused by the seasonal
shift effect and continuing start-up losses in online printing.
Net profit fell by 29% to EUR4.6m (2011: EUR6.4m) or an
EPS equivalent of EUR0.70 (2011: EUR 0.95). CEWE COLOR
also confirmed its 2012 guidance. The Oldenburg based company
still expects sales to grow in a corridor from EUR500m up
to EUR525m (2011: EUR469.0). EBIT should reach a level of
EUR27m to EUR33m (2011: EUR30.1m). EPS is forecasted in
a range from EUR2.44 extending to EUR3.06 (2011: EUR2.84).
CEWE also highlighted its new digital print activities with the
brands “saxoprint”, “viaprinto” and latest “CEWE-PRINT.de”.
Assessment: CEWE figures came in line with our expectations.
We have the impression that the company could have disclosed
higher earnings if they wanted. For strategical reasons we assume
that CEWE´s focus is currently more on market share
gains than on short term earnings. Therefore we presume a minus
of EUR2.0m for the new online printing activities. CEWE
has the financial strength to act in this way; we expect a net
cash position of EUR3.5m at the end of financial year 2013. In
addition huge marketing expenses (SQR 2013e: +13% other
operating expenses) provide the ground for a successful Christmas
business. CEWE has started TV commercial and board advertising
in football. Despite the expansion with digital printing
solutions for business customers the decisive quarter for CEWE
COLOR will remain Q4 in the foreseeable future. CEWE represents
a solid value play and a bet on stable private consumption
in Germany.
Conclusion: CEWE COLOR shares currently trade at a PER of
9.3 (SQR 2013e) and an EV/EBITDA of 3.6 (SQR2013e) while
its peers (Miscellaneous consumer shares) trade at a PER of
14.5 (2013e) and an EV/EBITDA of 8.3 (2013e). We confirm our
Buy rating with an unchanged price target of EUR41.00.
2.2. Sources of information and summary of the basis of valuation and the valuation methods applied during the preparation
2.2.1. Sources of information:
Essential sources of information for the preparation of this document are publications in interior and foreign media like information services (e.g.,
Within the scope of the evaluation of enterprises the following valuation methods are applied: multiplier models (stock exchange value / profit,
Group comparisons, historic valuation methods, discounting models (DCF, DDM, EVA, RIM), Break-up-Value- and Sum-of-the-Parts-approaches,
substance-valuation methods or a combination of different methods. The valuation models are dependent on economic parameters like interest
rates, currencies, resources and on economic assumptions. Moreover, market moods influence the valuations of enterprises. Also, the approaches
are based on expectations that may change rapidly and without advance warning according to developments specific for the respective branch.
Therefore, the valuation results and fair values derived from the models may also change accordingly. The results of the evaluation basically refer to
a period of 12 months. Nevertheless, they are also subjected to market conditions and constitute merely a snapshot. They may be reached faster or
slower or may be scaled up or down.
