NOTES:
1. The Liberal Studies major is for students pursuing a general-purpose associate degree. Most students will use the Liberal Studies major
to transfer to a four-year university ready to continue for a multi-subject teaching credential. The Liberal Studies major for elementary
teaching can result in a bachelor’s degree and a preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. COURSES SELECTED FOR THE
MAJOR DEPENDS UPON THE FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTION THE STUDENT PLANS TO ATTEND.
2. The major requires completion of 35-37 units with a “C” or better grade in each course. The remaining units should total 60 semester
units minimum with a 2.0 or better GPA. THESE UNITS SHOULD INCLUDE TRANSFERABLE COURSES REQUIRED FOR
THE MULTI-SUBJECT CREDENTIAL SPECIFIC TO YOUR TRANSFER UNIVERSITY IN CONSULATION WITH A
COUNSELOR. See the FCC catalog that applies to you for associate degree requirements.
3. The courses specified are to help prepare students to pass the state approved California Subject Exam for Teachers (CSET) which is
required for all elementary education teachers in California.
4. Admission to the CSU requires “C” grades in CSU GE Area A and B4, and in six (6) additional A-E courses. A minimum 2.67 GPA is
required to enter all credential programs at CSU Fresno.
5. The CLAD is now the “English Learner Authorization,” and is all upper division. The program does not require foreign language;
however, the BCLAD program is still active.
6. It is recommended that students take and pass the CBEST Exam as soon as they have completed ENGL 1A and MATH 10A.
7. The Associate Degree requires completion of the major (61-71 units) with a “C” or better grade in each course plus the completion of
the General Associate Degree requirements – basic competencies, physical education/Dance, and lifetime physical and mental wellness
– and General Education requirements for a total of 60 semester units minimum with a 2.0 or better GPA.
