The premium appearance is complemented by a comprehensive list of new features and technologies, including available All-Wheel Drive (AWD). As a result of Buick’s growing presence around the globe, particularly China, the redesigned LaCrosse was developed with unprecedented input from gM’s design and engineering groups in North America, Europe and Asia. In fact, the design was first introduced on a concept vehicle that debuted in China in 2008. The 2010 LaCrosse is offered with a pair of new engines tuned to deliver a balance of performance and efficiency. They include a 3.0-liter DOhC V-6 rated at 255 horsepower (252 hp with AWD) and a 3.6-liter DOhC V-6 rated at 280 horsepower. Both use variable valve timing and direct-injection technology to optimize power and efficiency, with reduced emissions. A 6-speed automatic transmission is paired with each engine, too. A contemporary interior includes available features such as in-dash navigation,* Bluetooth ® connectivity, an auxiliary audio input and a USB port. for rear-seat passengers, a DVD entertainment system is offered. Also available is a head-up instrument display in the windshield; high-intensity discharge adaptive forward lighting that can direct the headlamp beams up to 15 degrees for enhanced illumination of the road and its curves; a rearview camera with the display integrated into the navigation system screen and Side Blind Zone Alert** that notifies the driver if a vehicle in adjacent lanes is traveling in the driver’s outside mirror blind spot. Offered in three models: CX – equipped with the 3.0-liter V-6, premium cloth seats and 17-inch wheels. CXL – also equipped with the 3.0-liter engine, adds leather-appointed heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, fog lamps, outside rearview mirror with LED turn indicators and puddle lamps and 18-inch wheels. AWD is available. CXS – powered by the 3.6-liter V-6, it adds available real-time active-dampening suspension; perforated, leather-appointed seating; heated and ventilated front seats and chrome-plated 18-inch wheels (19-inch optional). y Mark Phillips photos Barry Kluczyk ONLiNE OppOrTUNiTiEs ACDelco’s latest eForum identifies Internet-based avenues for increasing parts sales ACDelco delved further into the world of e-commerce and explained to its partners ways to leverage the Internet during the latest eforum conference, held April 21-23 in Ypsilanti, Mich. The conference encapsulated ACDelco’s emphasis on electronic security, e-training and promotion of Internet sales, including obsolescent inventory. It was the fourth-annual session and welcomed affiliated warehouse distributors. Attendees could participate in various training sessions, including overviews and deep dives into ACDelco’s eSmart and Prodriver tools, as well as the company’s Business-to-Consumer (B2C) strategies. There is a burgeoning customer base for buying autos and auto parts online, says famous Rhodes of eBay ® Motors, which is partnering with ACDelco to sell obsolete parts. In 2008, $19.3 billion was spent online on automotive parts and services, according to forrester Research’s report, “State of Online Retail.” That was an increase of nearly 15 percent over 2007’s $16.8 billion—and that includes spending after the economy quickly soured. Obsolescent parts sales through eBay Motors began as a pilot program earlier this year for ACDelco and it has steadily gained traction. Steve Liao of MechanicNet says distributors pay no eBay listing fees to sell their parts through the ACDelco/eBay Motors partnership. eBay, which is known chiefly as an auction site, charges fees to list items for sale or auction. MechanicNet will pay those costs for distributors. The ACDelco/eBay Motors partnership has taken into consideration several factors to encourage participation, Liao says. Warehouse Distributor (WD) names are hidden from buyers to prevent channel conflict with local customers. In addition, WD contact info is removed to prevent a service burden on a WD’s counter staff, and sales tax is collected from customers so distributors don’t have to do it. Promoting internet sales Renee David, an ACDelco advertising specialist, revealed to distributors the tricks to promoting their Internet sales and encouraged them to use paid search terms on google ® rather than online advertising to reach customers. It’s the most efficient and a more precise method of reaching them, she says. “Paid search is a way to find anything as a consumer,” David says. “Search catches a consumer when they’re out there looking for something.” With paid search, advertisers pay only when someone clicks on a link as opposed to some ads, which cost money every time someone sees the ad, regardless if they click through to a Web site. There are two types of searches on the Web. “Natural search” is when people utilize google, for example, and find results based purely on content of the Web page. With “paid search,” advertisers buy key words and when a Web user searches for a particular term, the appropriate links are served up. David stresses to distributors with e-commerce Web sites that they shouldn’t rush to buy any and every key word. “You don’t want to go out and purchase the term ‘ACDelco batteries’ if you don’t sell batteries,” she says. “If you bought that and send someone to a page about filters, they’re going to be confused. good content and driving people to the appropriate place in your site is the key to success.” David says ACDelco buys about 1.8 million key words, such as various combinations of words like “ACDelco batteries” and many variations of the most popular parts. n 12 13
