Expert Animal Handling<br />

<strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong>’s Animal Care solution<br />

encompasses proven experience in handling and <strong>care</strong><br />

for live <strong>animal</strong>s, including pets, exotics and <strong>the</strong> world’s<br />

finest racehorses, as well as complying strictly with<br />

IATA Live Animal Regulations (LAR).<br />

All <strong>animal</strong>s, including domestic pets transported<br />

are constantly supervised for <strong>the</strong>ir safety, comfort<br />

and security, right from acceptance to delivery, in an<br />

environment designed to ensure <strong>the</strong>ir welfare. While<br />

<strong>animal</strong> welfare is our first priority, <strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong><br />

also ensures that <strong>the</strong> often complex requirements of<br />

regulatory authorities are met to avoid unnecessary<br />

delays at any point and guides <strong>the</strong> shipper about<br />

documentation, container requirements and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

IATA Regulations.<br />

The same detailed attention and IATA credentials<br />

that apply for <strong>the</strong> transportation of live <strong>animal</strong>s<br />

equally extend to <strong>the</strong> transportation of horses.<br />

<strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong> provides specialised horse<br />

stalls, simplified loading and offloading operations<br />

using a unit-load device, and independently<br />

controlled air-conditioned zones to ensure horses<br />

are accommodated in maximum comfort and security.<br />

A team of expert veterinarians and equine specialists<br />

are on hand throughout <strong>the</strong> flight and grooms are also<br />

permitted to accompany horses.<br />

Caring for Pets & Live Animals<br />

IATA Live Animals Regulations<br />

Whe<strong>the</strong>r it is a domestic pet, a thoroughbred<br />

racehorse or an <strong>animal</strong>* transported for zoological,<br />

agricultural or trade purposes, we can guide you<br />

(if necessary) on how to conform with <strong>the</strong> IATA Live<br />

Animals Regulations, <strong>the</strong> worldwide industry standard<br />

for transporting fauna by air. The current edition<br />

CITES - Convention of International Trade in<br />

Endangered Species’<br />

All <strong>animal</strong>s included in CITES, which require that<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir transportation and trade is controlled, must be<br />

presented along with <strong>the</strong> CITES certificate. For more<br />

Shipment Procedures<br />

For all <strong>animal</strong> shipments accepted on <strong>Emirates</strong>, you must<br />

make a reservation in advance by contacting your nearest<br />

<strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong> office. For more information on easy<br />

booking procedures, please visit www.skycargo.com<br />

We will advise you when your pet should be delivered to<br />

<strong>the</strong> airport - usually between two and four hours before<br />

departure, although this can vary from country to country.<br />

A strong high quality container, correctly chosen for<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>animal</strong> type, nature and size, which conforms to<br />

IATA Live Animals Regulations must be used, ensuring<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>animal</strong>(s) is safe, secure and comfortable. <strong>Emirates</strong><br />

<strong>SkyCargo</strong> will be pleased to assist you in choosing <strong>the</strong><br />

right containers. For dogs, cats and certain o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>animal</strong>s<br />

(refer IATA LAR), we also have a range of high-quality<br />

kennels manufactured from sturdy injection-moulded<br />

plastic, when required. Additionally, those shipping<br />

<strong>animal</strong>s from Dubai can visit our official handlers,<br />

Containers must be correctly labelled with <strong>the</strong> standard<br />

IATA Live Animals Label, <strong>the</strong> name and address of<br />

<strong>the</strong> owner, a 24-hour contact phone number and <strong>the</strong><br />

consignee’s name and address. If you are carrying a<br />

pet, <strong>the</strong> pet’s name must be shown on <strong>the</strong> container.<br />

Any relevant information with regard to <strong>animal</strong> <strong>care</strong><br />

(e.g. watering), must be supplied and attached to<br />

<strong>the</strong> container. Moreover, any medication that is being<br />

given must be declared to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Emirates</strong> acceptance<br />

staff during reservation and acceptance, and if found<br />

acceptable, be recorded with <strong>the</strong> name of <strong>the</strong> drug,<br />

time and route of administration, and have relevant<br />

documents attached. For pets, please ensure that all<br />

vaccinations are up to date and provide vaccination and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r health certificates.


<strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong> does not recommend tranquilising<br />

or sedating of <strong>animal</strong>s. For smooth and fast delivery<br />

at destination, we will ensure that <strong>the</strong>re is someone to<br />

meet your sensitive shipment at <strong>the</strong> airport of destination.<br />

We will request that <strong>the</strong> consignor provides <strong>the</strong><br />

consignee’s confirmation to accept <strong>the</strong> shipment<br />

in advance.<br />

Transporation of Domestic Pets<br />

<strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong> provides a range of pet containers<br />

(IATA LAR Container Requirement 1) in various sizes.<br />

Animals must be able to stand in a natural position,<br />

turn around easily, and lie down comfortably. Kennels<br />

are available in six sizes:<br />

They can be ordered from any <strong>Emirates</strong> <strong>SkyCargo</strong><br />

office - but order must be placed at least two weeks<br />

before your pet’s travel.<br />

We recommend purchasing <strong>the</strong> container several days<br />

before travel. By placing familiar bedding, toys or titbits<br />

inside, your pet will become accustomed to it.<br />

Fast-track your booking process<br />

To ensure <strong>the</strong> safest transport for your <strong>animal</strong>(s),<br />

in addition to <strong>the</strong> basic booking information such as:<br />

• Number of <strong>animal</strong>s to be transported<br />

• Number of stalls required (for horses)<br />

• Origin/Destination<br />

• Date of travel<br />

• Consignee and Consignor details<br />

We also require <strong>the</strong> following information:<br />

• Animal common and Scientific Name<br />

• Individual age, weight and gender<br />

• Details of any prior transportation just prior to<br />

delivery to <strong>Emirates</strong><br />

• 24-hour emergency number<br />

• For dogs and cats, breed name (for mixed breeds<br />

details of <strong>the</strong> mixed breeds, if known)<br />

Preparation of document requirements:<br />

• All necessary freight papers<br />

• Customs documents<br />

• Health papers and certifications<br />

• All necessary export licenses and <strong>the</strong> import permit<br />

Note: Only original documentation must be provided,<br />

to accompany <strong>the</strong> shipment. Photocopies must be<br />

retained by <strong>the</strong> Shippers.<br />

Equipment details:<br />

For equipment accompanying <strong>the</strong> <strong>animal</strong>s, <strong>the</strong><br />

following must be adhered to:<br />

• Equipment to be booked in accordance with<br />

country requirements (under <strong>the</strong> same AWB as <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>animal</strong> or separate)<br />

• We require an approximate weight of <strong>the</strong><br />

equipment, in order to block space


Horse Transportation<br />

Be it a thoroughbred horse between races, a<br />

much loved pony or a family horse, from <strong>the</strong> moment<br />

you entrust your horse(s) to us until we deliver it back to<br />

you, <strong>the</strong> wellbeing of your horse is our top priority.<br />

In accordance with IATA’s Live Animals regulations,<br />

all our equine passengers are loaded into specially<br />

designed horse stalls that are fully enclosed,<br />

self-contained units, approved and developed in<br />

consultation with veterinary experts.<br />

To maximise <strong>the</strong> safety of your horses, separate ramps<br />

at <strong>the</strong> front and rear of <strong>the</strong> stall are used for loading and<br />

unloading, with <strong>the</strong> <strong>animal</strong>s always facing <strong>the</strong> front of<br />

<strong>the</strong> aircraft during <strong>the</strong> flight. Non-slip floors and interiors<br />

without rough or sharp edges are also standard<br />

features. The stalls can be adapted to carry up to three<br />

horses, depending on <strong>the</strong>ir size, age, condition and <strong>the</strong><br />

owner’s requirements.<br />

Horses travel on board our state-of-<strong>the</strong>-art freighter<br />

aircraft with several independently air-conditioned<br />

zones, allowing us to regulate <strong>the</strong> temperature,<br />

pressure and ventilation to suit <strong>the</strong> individual needs of<br />

<strong>the</strong> horses. In addition, <strong>the</strong> long haul capabilities of our<br />

747 freighter aircraft prevents unnecessary stops.


Equine <strong>care</strong> that goes <strong>the</strong> extra mile<br />

Our dedicated cargo professionals across <strong>the</strong> globe<br />

put <strong>the</strong> welfare of each <strong>animal</strong> first, <strong>care</strong>fully monitoring<br />

its condition and watching closely for any erratic<br />

behaviour. We also have <strong>the</strong> additional backing of a<br />

team of external veterinarians and equine specialists<br />

who are on call at all times to ensure horses are as<br />

comfortable in <strong>the</strong> air as <strong>the</strong>y are on <strong>the</strong> ground.
