PREFACE<br />

The present thesis entitled ”Contact allergy to the preservative methyldibromoglutaronitrile” was prepared to fulfil the requirements<br />

<strong>for</strong> obtaining the PhD degree at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark. The work was conducted<br />

in the period 2002–2004 at the Department of Dermatology, Odense University Hospital as part of the research program<br />

of the National Allergy Research Centre, Gentofte, by which the thesis was also funded. Additional funding was obtained from<br />

the Aage Bang’s Foundation and A. J. Andersens and Hustrus Foundation.<br />

I wish to thank my main adviser Klaus E. Andersen <strong>for</strong> his infectious enthusiasm and <strong>for</strong> his encouragement and the many<br />

inspiring discussions we have had; and my co-adviser, Torkil Menné, and the head of the National Allergy Research Centre,<br />

Jeanne Duus Johansen, <strong>for</strong> their invaluable expertise, support and dedication. I am grateful to Jytte Thode, Jette Krapalis and the<br />
