There are two limits to using fast volume selection: ► It does not apply to striping allocation. Striping allocation has already excluded the volumes above the high threshold from volume selection. ► It may inadvertently exclude volumes that have sufficient free space but for which the SMS volume statistics indicate that they do not, as described in the MVS Initialization and Tuning Reference, SA22-7592, and shown in Figure 3-6. Invalid volume statistics can occur as a result of the following events: The VTOC index is broken.
