In May 2002, the Government announced that it was establishing a new Department to be known as the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister which, amongst other responsibilities, would be responsible for land use planning. On 12 December 2001 the Government published a Green Paper, setting out its proposals for reforming the planning system. This is likely to lead to substantive changes to the system in due course, which will be reflected in any future revision to this guide.
