FIND OUT what your local planning authority is likely <strong>to</strong> approve by:<br />

• looking at <strong>the</strong> development plan(s) held at <strong>the</strong> council’s offices or main libraries;<br />

• talking <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> local authority’s planning officers.<br />

DISCUSS your ideas with:<br />

• <strong>the</strong> local planning officers and your elected local councillors;<br />

• your neighbours and o<strong>the</strong>rs likely <strong>to</strong> be affected by your proposals.<br />

TAKE ADVICE where necessary:<br />

• consider seeking professional advice from a planning consultant, land agent or surveyor;<br />

• consider whe<strong>the</strong>r you need, and are eligible for, free planning consultancy advice offered<br />

by DEFRA under <strong>the</strong> Rural Enterprise Scheme – see Appendix E.<br />

CHANGE or modify your original ideas if that makes <strong>the</strong>m more likely <strong>to</strong> succeed.<br />

PRESENT your plans and application with accurate and adequate information, covering all <strong>the</strong><br />

points likely <strong>to</strong> be of concern <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> local planning authority.<br />

CHECK that you have included everything, including <strong>the</strong> correct fee.<br />

FIND OUT if you may need o<strong>the</strong>r consents in addition <strong>to</strong> planning permission.<br />
