MasterCard <strong>CVC</strong> 2 <strong>Validation</strong> <strong>Program</strong><br />
Beginning in April 2009, MasterCard implemented <strong>the</strong> MasterCard <strong>CVC</strong> 2<br />
<strong>Validation</strong> <strong>Program</strong> <strong>for</strong> U.S. region merchants as announced in <strong>the</strong> article<br />
“MasterCard <strong>CVC</strong> 2 <strong>Validation</strong> <strong>Program</strong> and Revised Standards—Amendment,”<br />
in Global Operations Bulletin No. 3, 2 March 2009. When a merchant registered<br />
<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> program processes a key-entered face-to-face transaction, <strong>the</strong> merchant<br />
may seek to obtain card validation code (<strong>CVC</strong> 2) validation instead <strong>of</strong> a card<br />
imprint. MasterCard will revise chargeback message reason code 4837 (No<br />
Cardholder Authorization) to provide that such <strong>CVC</strong> 2 validation may be a valid<br />
substitute <strong>for</strong> a card imprint as pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> card presence.<br />
