Students Honored <strong>at</strong> April 20 HPER Student Banquet<br />

The School <strong>of</strong> Health, Physical Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Recre<strong>at</strong>ion hosted the <strong>2012</strong> School <strong>of</strong> HPER Student Banquet<br />

Friday, April 20, <strong>at</strong> the Thompson Alumni Center. HPER faculty, staff, students and their families and friends<br />

enjoyed a fun social hour, silent auction and delicious meal. Afterwards, students were recognized for their<br />

scholastic and service-oriented contributions. Helping to plan and set up the event were HPER Office Staff<br />

Members: Stacy Sliva, Angela Collins, Mary Sutherland and Demi Tre<strong>at</strong>, and the School <strong>of</strong> HPER Student<br />

Organiz<strong>at</strong>ion Presidents: P<strong>at</strong>rick Tomkins from Campus Recre<strong>at</strong>ion Advisory Board, Jake Ulrich from Maverick<br />

Athletic Training Students, Jade Zimmerman from Alliance <strong>of</strong> Fitness Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and Aja Kneip Pelster from<br />

Eta Sigma Gamma. Presenting th<strong>at</strong> evening was the Assistant Director <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> HPER, Dr. Michael<br />

Messerole.<br />

Many generous donors made it possible to continue the tradition <strong>of</strong> holding a silent auction <strong>at</strong> the banquet. Bargains<br />

and one-<strong>of</strong>-a- kind items were up for bid. These items helped raise funds to support HPER Student Organiz<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

and <strong>of</strong>fset future banquet costs.<br />

The main reason for the g<strong>at</strong>hering was to pay tribute the students. The School <strong>of</strong> HPER is proud to announce the<br />

following students for their contributions to the School <strong>of</strong> HPER, UNO and the community as a whole.<br />

Aja Kneip Pelster was honored for winning the “Public Health Associ<strong>at</strong>ion in <strong>Nebraska</strong>, Outstanding Public Health<br />

Student and Scholarship Award” for the second year in a row.<br />

K<strong>at</strong>herine Heckenbach was honored as the Helen Hansen Outstanding Gradu<strong>at</strong>e Student Award for <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
