Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)


Universal <strong>ICT</strong> Education Programme<br />

- Course developed by Certiport Inc (USA)<br />

- 3 Core Modules<br />

� Computing Fundamentals (Hardware / Software / Operating Systems)<br />

� Key Applications (Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation)<br />

� Living Online (Internet, Email, Impact of Networking on Society)<br />

• Course Duration: 45 hours<br />

• Run in 55 State Secondary Schools (<strong>Computer</strong> Labs)<br />

• 9 Time Table Options<br />

- Attendance Certificate awarded to those who complete at least 41 hours<br />

of course

- Officially launched by Dr the Honourable Rashid Beebeejaun<br />

FRCP, GCSK, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Renewable<br />

Energy and Public Utilities on 19 January 2010<br />

- 2745 advanced IT/Non IT Course Modules being offered online<br />

at very interesting / affordable prices


Objectives of UIEP – Phase II<br />

• Democratise access to advanced/ professional IT & Non IT courses<br />

• Encourage self learning mode<br />

• To create an adequate pool of IT Professionals to drive the<br />

growth of the IT Industry<br />

• Contribute to develop <strong>ICT</strong> into the 5 th pillar of the economy in line<br />

with Government’s Vision

Objectives of the CEP<br />

internet facilities)<br />

– Empowering local community with <strong>ICT</strong> skills and internet<br />

access<br />

– Development of a community web portal and hence promote<br />

local content creation


Achievements<br />

Community Empowerment Programme - CEP<br />

– 40 <strong>Computer</strong> Clubs Setup (23 Youth Centres / 17 Women<br />

centres)<br />

– Content received for 54 villages for Community Web Portal<br />

– 171,484 person have benefitted from the facilities at date<br />

– An additional of 150 <strong>Computer</strong> Clubs will be launched in social<br />

welfare centres, community centres and day care centres

• Peering network platform for all ISPs to keep internet locally
