Define Roles of Mentor/Chair
• Define Mentor(s) Role
– Science, Clinical, Career – likely part of big picture
– Identify mentor goals/mentee goals – align them
• Define Chair Role (varies)
– Usually not 1°scientific mentor but always a mentor
– Broader than mentor – overall short/long term success
– Chair goals – include all nonscientific career trajectory
– Chair goals – include Dept success – align goals
• Meetings with each/ some meetings with all
Interacting with your Mentors
• Will likely have several – content/process
• Regular Meetings - 1°- prob weekly at start
• Have an agenda/list of topics
• Keep eye on protected time together
