From K to R: setting priorities Lab start-up: ask for what you need to get your lab underway Hire, but hire carefully, and not hastily Stay focused on topic; resist the temptation to spread yourself thin (e.g., too many projects, too many collaborations) Write grants (institutional, private foundations) but don’t let this get in the way of: Publishing papers – aim high! 9/5/2011 39 2
