As we have embarked on a
new calendar year, it is an
inspiration to record our
past achievements. We
have done this together
and our gratitude is deeply
felt for the tireless efforts
of our devoted Auxiliary
members.
The continuing story of our
active involvement, as well
as a glimpse of what we are planning for
this spring and summer, unfolds in the
pages of this issue.
With the proceeds of our very successful
Fall Fair and Raffle we were able to purchase
four defibrillators for the hospital, instead
of the three that were originally promised.
Thanks to all of our volunteers and
contributors, you helped make this a
success.
Dr. Philip H. Gordon, renowned colo-rectal
surgeon, addressed our Fall Health Forum.
His topic, “Colon Cancer Prevention, It’s
Simple - Just Do It”, was a sold out success.
Those who attended experienced a visual
and very thought provoking lecture.
The Lifeline Project was officially launched at
a reception held at the hospital. Fran Yagod
and her committee are to be commended
for doing a great job.
As the various areas in the hospital are
being renovated, the hospital has asked us
to convene a Hospital Art and Redesign
Team to try and brighten the walls and
improve the spirit of the patients. The first
area refurbished was 7 NorthWest Oncology
Unit. The Wilner Family, in memory of Allen
Wilner, very graciously donated twentythree
pieces of art to help with this project.
Our HOPS program has graduated many
students over the years; two of these are
now doctors here at the JGH, Dr. Michael
Hier and Dr. Jamie Rappaport. How
fortunate we are to have them teach this
generation of possible future doctors.
The Membership Committee, led very
capably by Harriet Muroff, has redesigned
our membership pamphlet of which we are
very proud . We will now commence on an
ambitious membership campaign. Our
membership must continue to grow to
ensure the foundation for our future. Our
growth and development is dependent
upon the involvement of caring and capable
individuals who, with nurturing and
direction, can assume responsibilities of
leadership in our Auxiliary. We will be most
grateful to all members who upgrade their
membership status and continue to provide
their ever-important financial support.

À l’aube de cette nouvelle
année, il est fort stimulant de
passer en revue nos dernières
réalisations. Nous avons
accompli ce travail ensemble,
et nous éprouvons une
profonde gratitude pour les
efforts inlassables des dévoués
membres des Auxiliaires.
Les pages de cette édition
racontent la perpétuelle
histoire de notre profond engagement, tout en
offrant un aperçu des activités en préparation
pour le printemps et pour l’été.
Notre bazar et notre tirage d’automne ont
remporté un énorme succès; leurs recettes nous
ont permis d’acquérir quatre défibrillateurs pour
l’Hôpital, au lieu des trois défibrillateurs que nous
avions prévu acheter au départ. Grâce à nos
bénévoles et à nos bienfaiteurs, cet événement a
été couronné de succès.
Le Dr Philip H. Gordon, un réputé chirurgien de
chirurgie colo-rectale, a pris la parole durant
notre forum d’automne sur la santé. Le thème
de sa conférence « Colon Cancer Prevention, It’s
Simple – Just Do It » a été fort apprécié du public
qui a bénéficié d’un exposé visuel des plus
instructifs. Le lancement du projet Lifeline s’est
tenu lors d’une réception offerte à l’Hôpital. Fran
Yagod et son comité mérite toutes nos
félicitations pour leur merveilleux travail.
Tandis que des rénovations sont en cours dans
plusieurs secteurs de l’Hôpital, la direction nous a
demandé de former une équipe de décorateurs
pour tenter d’égayer les murs de l’établissement
et de remonter le moral de nos patients. L’Unité
d’oncologie 7 Nord-Ouest a été le premier
secteur à être réaménagé. Afin de nous aider
dans ce projet, la famille Wilner a généreusement
donné 23 œuvres d’art à la mémoire de Allen
Milner.
Au fil des ans, des diplômes ont été décernés à
un grand nombre d’étudiants du secondaire
ayant participé à notre programme
d’introduction aux activités hospitalières (HOPS).
C’est le cas de deux médecins, le Dr Michael Hier
et le Dr Jamie Rappaport, lesquels travaillent
actuellement à l’HGJ. Quelle chance de les avoir
avec nous pour enseigner à cette génération de
jeunes qui deviendront peut-être un jour de
futurs médecins.
Dirigé par la très talentueuse Harriet Muroff, le
comité de recrutement a refait la conception du
dépliant destiné à nos membres, et nous en
sommes très fiers. Nous nous proposons
d’entamer incessamment une campagne de
recrutement de grande envergure. Le nombre
de nos membres doit continuer de croître pour
consolider notre avenir. Notre croissance et
notre développement dépend de l’implication de
personnes dévouées et compétentes qui, avec
un peu d’aide et de directives, sauront assumer
des responsabilités à la direction des Auxiliaires.
Nous sommes extrêmement reconnaissants
envers nos membres qui, en faisant monter d’un
niveau leur statut de membre, continuent de
fournir un soutien financier d’une importance
capitale.
Nous vous souhaitons à tous une très heureuse
pâque, la santé et la prospérité.
