The overwhelming majority of Germans think waste separation is a
good idea. They expect producers and retailers to accept their product
responsibilities and ensure that sales packages are recycled for
minimised environmental impact. For them, Der Grüne Punkt is a

It was back in 1990, before the first German Packaging Ordinance
came into force, that Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland
GmbH (DSD GmbH) played a pioneering role in establishing
and operating close-to-home collection of recyclables throughout
the whole of Germany. And for the 5 th Amendment to the German
Packaging Ordinance, in force since 2009, we have been efficaciously
supporting our customers in fulfilling their product-related
responsibilities in eco-friendly compliance with statute law.
Today, we are the market leader in Germany among the dual systems,
and a top-ranking provider of take-back systems. There are
good reasons for this: even after the contract has been signed, we
also provide expert consultancy support, efficacious technical and
administrative solutions, and help to optimise our customers’ waste
management across the board. We marry economic interests to ecological
responsibilities. And it’s this that makes the crucial difference

With the mass flow verification report, which the state ministries
of the environment require from us each year, we confirm conformity
with the recovery quotas, thus guaranteeing our customers
maximised legal compliance with the stipulations of the German
Packaging Ordinance. For years now, we’ve been meeting these
mandatory targets to optimum effect.
DSD GmbH is an acknowledged exemplar of best practice in
ensuring high eco-efficiency of package recycling – as demonstrated
by our Environmental Performance Balance, which we have additionally
been publishing since 2001, covering the important
environ mental parameters for all material categories to arrive at a
holistic ecological assessment of package recycling. The latest results

These results constitute an important foundation for improving
package recycling still further in terms of both economy and
ecology. Our goal is to keep packaging recyclables circulating for
even longer in the future. For our customers, this has manifold

DSD GmbH is the first system operator to provide a personalised
climatological certificate for its customers confirming how many
environmentally harmful CO 2 equivalents a company has saved in
the year concerned by virtue of its recycling activities. The results
are verified by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research
(IFEU) Heidelberg, and are already being incorporated in the sustainability
reports published by the customers concerned.
Premium waste management conducted with maximised ecological
responsibility is what we do – and true to our convictions, we support
various projects of the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation
Union (NABU), for example, are involved in the German
Sustainability Prize and are a member of the “Biodiversity in Good
Company” initiative sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of
the Environment.
