Kvadrat Soft Cells
Kvadrat Soft Cells are patented panels that control sound absorption.
Primarily used as building components, they are also suitable for
post-fitting. Soft Cells allow you to create an aesthetic environment
with excellent acoustic properties that promote productivity and
well-being.
Soft Cells are the product of Kvadrat’s commitment to pushing the
boundaries of textile design. The company has a history, which
continues to this day, of working with the world’s leading designers,
to develop premium-quality textiles and textile-related products for
public spaces and the home.
Soft Cells are available in two durable versions, which have just been
updated: Soft Cells and Soft Cells Broadline. Now even lighter and
easier to install, they enable architects and designers to optimise the
environmental quality of their projects.
Soft Cells - the original version - rely on two layers of tensioned
textile to control sound. Typically, this version offers Class-C
sound absorption. Soft Cells Broadline panels incorporate acoustic
padding behind a textile layer to offer Class-A sound absorption,
as per ISO 11654. Now, thanks to the recent design enhancements,
they can deliver this with most textiles.
Importantly, thanks to the design, Soft Cells and Soft Cells Broadline
support accreditation under the Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification system,
when used as a building component.
Ultimately, both versions of Soft Cells are ideal in any setting where
outstanding aesthetics and acoustics need to be combined with
durability and flexibility.

New innovative design
Patented Kvadrat Soft Cells combine sustainable design with a
unique aesthetic and excellent functional performance. Whether
used on ceilings or walls, Soft Cells offer a high degree of control
over acoustic conditions.
Due to a 2012 redesign, Soft Cells panels are now more versatile and
customisable than ever: they can be more precisely optimised to
different specifications and markets, and are even simpler to install.
In addition, they can be tailored to deliver Class-A sound absorption
with most textiles.
Aesthetic excellence
Soft Cells panels are available in over 200 colours and in a wide
choice of Kvadrat fabrics, allowing for tailored design solutions.
Flexibility
The frames are customisable and can be manufactured in various
sizes and installed at any angle. The frames allow for the tension to be
adjusted according to fabric, size and orientation: curved surfaces
can be installed, if required.
Simple to install, easy to update
Soft Cells have been developed to offer modular and flexible
solutions for diverse interior requirements. Quick to install, they
can easily be taken down, reassembled and reupholstered to meet
changing requirements. Importantly, the fabric can be changed as
often as needed, in keeping with updated usage or design needs.
Built to last
Soft Cells are highly durable and their design is based on an
innovative, patented aluminium frame, with a concealed tensioning
mechanism that keeps the surface of the fabric perfectly stretched.
As a result, Soft Cells are not affected by humidity or temperature
and stay looking good for years.
Made with recyclable materials
Recyclable and renewable materials are used where possible in the
manufacture of Soft Cells. Over half of the aluminium used in the
frames comes from recycled materials. Furthermore, the acoustic
padding incorporated into the Soft Cells Broadline panels has been
altered for optimal recyclability.
Designed with safety in mind
Soft Cells comply with a number of fire retardant standards including
EN13501-1:2007. Test results can be supplied upon request.

Acoustics
Your senses define how you experience the world and, therefore, your
feeling of well-being. Sound plays a big role in this. With Soft Cells,
you can ensure that the acoustic conditions of a space are optimal.
Scientific evidence shows that when you provide such an environment,
levels of productivity and satisfaction are increased significantly.
Crucially, a room without acoustic treatment has a long reverberation
time and amplified noise, which makes speech hard to understand.
The resulting acoustic smog makes it extremely difficult to concentrate
and communicate. In fact, it is scientifically proven that physical
and psychological strain can result in a loss of performance of
approximately 25–30% among office workers.
Architects, interior designers and room planners face two key
challenges as they seek to optimise quality of space. Firstly, the steel,
concrete and glass used in today’s architecture, does not usually
deliver comfortable acoustic conditioning. Secondly, employees are
facing unprecedented demands on their performance in increasingly
crowded offices.
These days, noise screening is required to seamlessly complement
interior design, in addition to performing to the highest standards.
Today, people demand flexible, stylish environments and the latest

Soft Cells and LEED
Thanks to the design, Soft Cells support accreditation under the
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building
certification system.
The LEED system evaluates every aspect of the construction process
and building components used in new and existing buildings. The main
emphasis is on energy efficiency, conservation and the overall ‘health’
of the building. The use of Soft Cells contributes favourably to the overall
rating of a building.
The information on this page highlights some of the LEED credits, which
can be gained by using Soft Cells. It is relevant for the following standards:
LEED-NC CREDITS (Based on LEED-CI Version 3, 2009) and after LEED
Commercial Interiors CREDITS (Based on LEED-CI Version 3, 2009).
MR Credit 2: Construction Waste Management
The Soft Cells manufacturing process has been designed to minimise
environmental impact: materials are cut to size and all the waste
aluminium from manufacturing is recycled. In addition, the modular
design of Soft Cells makes it easy to recycle the different components.
MR Credit 3: Material Re-use
Built to last, Soft Cells can easily be taken down, reassembled and
re-upholstered to meet changing requirements. As a result, Soft Cells
aluminium frames can be moved and re-used as often as required:
they last for years.
MR Credit 4: Recycled Content
Recyclable and renewable materials are used where possible in the
manufacture of Soft Cells. Over half of the aluminium used in the frames
comes from recycled materials. The content of recycled material in
the fabric depends on the specific product – information is available
on request.

Soft Cells
The Soft Cells panels typically deliver Class-C acoustic performance.
In doing so, they rely on two layers of tensioned textile.
In order to achieve the most satisfying acoustic performance, the
planner and acoustic expert can adjust the amount and placement
of Soft Cells to suit the functionality of the room.
The technical specifications of Soft Cells show efficient sound

Soft Cells Broadline
According to ISO 11654, Soft Cells Broadline panels deliver Class-A
sound absorption with high performance textiles. They feature acoustic
padding behind a front textile layer.
Thanks to a recent design update, Soft Cells Broadline panels can be
configured to deliver Class-A absorption with the majority of textiles.
Soft Cells Broadline panels are suitable for all rooms where a
premium acoustic solution is required. They are also ideal for smaller
interior settings, as they can take up less space while retaining high
acoustic performance.
The technical specifications of Soft Cells Broadline show very efficient
sound absorption across the better part of the frequency area.

Flexible fitting
Whether pre- or post-fitting, installing Soft Cells is simple and
quick due to the versatile track system, hinges, magnets and presslatch
brackets.
The panels can be attached to walls or ceilings. All frames are fully
detachable and offer the opportunity for hassle-free access, without
having to be completely removed.

You can create a different look with end caps by
covering the small gap between the installed Soft Cells
and the wall.
