7. Stress: *decrease visual sensory overload<br />

• Visual: no bright lights, honor the day/night biorhythm,<br />

avoid too many colors in child’s room<br />

• light at night: baFery operated red light in bedroom –<br />

does not harm melatonin produc'on in the brain<br />

• Clean up cluFer in the bedroom <strong>and</strong> play areas: make<br />

the child’s room a zen-­‐retreat: 1 toy visible at a 'me, 1<br />

dominant color (tan is good), 1 light, 1 chair, 1 picture<br />

on the wall.<br />

• Keep to one project or task at a 'me<br />

• Use simple visual cues to indicate needs<br />

• Look <strong>for</strong> fluorescent ligh'ng <strong>and</strong> get rid of it. Use<br />

inc<strong>and</strong>escent ligh'ng or full spectrum fluorescent<br />

(replace tubes every 8 months)<br />
