Opulence translates into embroidered fabrics, brocade,
beadwork and infl uences of the Far East or heraldic

Every fall has its wonderful palette of colours and fall 2006 is no
exception. Muddied darks such as cinnabar and olive are important
and the grey family from anthracite to pearl to charcoal offers a
neutral background for many ways of accessorizing. If there is
one regal colour family ruling it is red. Crimson, claret, vermillion,
lipstick red, even the purple/reds are sizzling hot, hot, hot.
The exotic look of leopard cannot be over emphasized this
season. A favourite for ages of Dolce and Gabanna and other
leading designers, (who doesn’t love the pattern), leopard is
showing up on shoes, gloves, scarves, coats, you name it and
some fashion house has done it in leopard The spotted pattern
works best if it is paired with plain black or red. Never head to toe.
The absolutely must-have hosiery is opaque
black. It underscores every colour, especially red.
Platform shoes are important in almost every designer
collection. Heels are chunkier and many styles are
versions of the wedgie. The pump has a rounder toe and
thicker heel this season. Boots help balance the new
silhouettes. For instance when worn over skinny leggings.
Gold is the leading metal colour if you want to invest in jewellery
for the season. Metallic perforated-leather bib necklaces update
the strapless dress with instant chic. Ropes of chains and
horse bit bracelets fi nish off the fall fashion statement with élan.
Menswear is taking a new path to sartorial elegance. Taking their
cues from uniforms, designers from Dolce & Gabbana to Karl
Lagerfeld are serving up offi cer coats, pea jackets, belted trench
coats and leather coats. If he isn’t stepping out in military style
he will be clad after dark in velvet jackets and vests, romantic
shirts and skinny jeans. Tailoring is returning to elegance with
three-piece suits, waistcoats, accosts and boot shoes.
