Rumble strips are one of our most costefficient

the eiksund connection
– deepest road tunnel in the world
In 2008, the Eiksund connection was opened on the west coast
of Norway. The connection is 14,880 meters long, and the
deepest point is 287 meters below sea level.
SafeRoad was chosen as a main supplier.
The world´s deepest tunnel requires the best of the best in rock
support, and SafeRoad has in total supplied over 90,000 bolts to
secure the tunnel. One of the types of bolts that was used was
our patented CT-bolt. All bolts are treated with the unique
CombiCoat ® surface treatment, which gives the bolts three times
the lifespan of a hot-dip galvanized bolt.
The connecting bridge and road have been secured with Ørsta
bridge parapets, standard road railings and lighting columns.
SafeRoad has also supplied bus shelters for the connection.
The final result is an impressive connection between the mainland
and the islands.

light neville street
– an innovative
solution
The aim of Light Neville Street was
to give Leeds a safer and out-ofthe-ordinary
gateway to the city. The
pioneering solution gives the 13,000
motorists and pedestrians, who use
the road every day, a sound and light
experience that really is different from
anything else seen on a main road
anywhere in Britain.
SafeRoad was the main contractor
in the project and joined forces
with leading architects, engineers
and acoustic experts to create a
spectacular area.
The tunnel was upgraded using
innovative engineering and
acoustic techniques, including
sound- absorbing wall-panels and a
new lighting scheme.
The new lighting scheme, incorporating
thousands of LEDs, has
improved the light levels in the tunnel.
Alongside this, an audio installation
has been created to soften the traffic
noise experienced in the tunnel. The
volume is adjusted in line with the
traffic volume at any time.
This was a challenging project for
SafeRoad, which needed all our skills
in steel construction and electrical
installation, but the result is an
excellent and innovative solution.
nordenga Bridge
– the new landmark
in oslo
The Nordenga Bridge connects
Bjørvika and the inner city of Oslo.
The 306 meter long bridge is the
new landmark in Oslo, and 15,000
to 20,000 cars pass the bridge every
day. The bridge was designed by the
architect Birger Heyerdahl, and is
divided into one pedestrian lane and
one traffic lane. SafeRoad was chosen
to supply 2,000 meters of bridge
parapets to the project.
Due to the architectural design, the
parapets had to be custom-made to
fulfill both the esthetics of the project
and meet the safety requirements.
SafeRoad worked in close
co- operation with the entrepreneur,
architect and the Norwegian Public
Roads Administration in designing and
manufacturing the bridge parapets.
The parapets are tested according to
the H2 requirements for safety, and
treated with CombiCoat ® to ensure
longevity.
The project shows SafeRoad’s ability
to meet customers’ requirements for
safety, design and longevity.

safeRoad- part of
poland’s new tolling
system
SafeRoad was chosen as a main
supplier of gantries and traffic safety
equipment to the new Electronic
Toll Solutions system in Poland. The
project was led by Kapsch TrafficCom.
SafeRoad has performed a wide range
of work throughout the country:
Ensuring traffic safety
on the hansa line
The Highway 1 – also called the Hansa
line – is one of the most frequented
highways in Germany. From August
2008 until the end of 2012 the Hansa
line will be extended to six lanes on a
total length of 72.5 km. The expansion
of the Hansa line is currently one
of SafeRoad’s four pilot projects to
develop transport infrastructure in
Germany, and is carried out on behalf
of the Federal Republic of Germany.
For the highly overloaded Hansa line it
means a positive change to economic
value.

with a span up to 45 metres
and meet the standard requirements
of the Polish Road Administration
• Design and approval of permanent
and temporary traffic organization
• Production and assembly of gantries
• Production and installation of
protective barriers (H1/W4, H1/W3)
• Supply and installation of energy

• Production and installation of
information boards and signs in the
marking of vertical via TOLL system.
SafeRoad is a major partner in this
project, and participates in a joint
venture within traffic safety. We
currently provide the delivery and
installation of guardrails and ensure
traffic safety in an overall length of
5,600 meters. From September 2009
to September 2010 seven phases
of construction were successfully
completed. The equipment of the route
was carried out with the following
guard rails:
• Mega Rail s: 66,000 m
• Mega Rail bw: 2,500 m
• EDS 2.0: 26,500 m
• EDS 1.33: 16,800 m
• ES: 7,200 m
• DDS ++: 2,000 m
• Limes Berlin and Limes T3: 13,000 m
In total, SafeRoad has delivered 325
gantries and 90 km of guardrails,
and the assembly teams have had
excellent performance with 40
installations per week on a national
scale.
SafeRoad’s companies in Poland and
their subcontractors have worked in
close co-operation in order to ensure
efficient delivery of the project.
Overall, the project covers a volume of
250 km guardrail assemblies.
The installation of the safety barriers
require 4 to 12 assembly teams in
daily operation. This requires logistical
expertise and good coordi nation
between our local construction office
in Bockel and the project managers,
to provide sufficient personnel and
material in the storage areas on site.
This challenge shows our flexibility and
technical know-how.
largest overpass in northern europe
In Aitik, approx. 100 km north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden, you will find the largest Soil Steel Bridge in Northern
Europe. The bridge is a ViaCon SuperCor, arch profile with a span of 16.8 meters and a height of 8.5 meters. The
bridge was built in 2010 and makes it possible for heavy trucks, 650 tons, from the Aitik mine to safely pass over the
public road. The SuperCor Bridge is designed to take the load of heavy mining equipment of up to 1250 tons.
SafeRoad protected the spectators and cyclists in the World
Cycling Championship
When the UCI Road World Championship was held in Copenhagen in September 2011, SafeRoad was chosen as a
main supplier of area protection equipment and signs. In close co-operation with Copenhagen Municipality and the
Danish police, SafeRoad ensured that the event was carried out safely. SafeRoad was responsible for preparing the
sign plan for the route and to supply, assemble and dismantle signs and area protection equipment. Approximately
800 prohibition signs and 700 various traffic signs were assembled and dismantled. In addition, 50 signs were
custom-made for the event. During the World Championships, SafeRoad had competent staff available 24 hours a day
to assist during the event.
