Geography, Marine and Environmental
Resources
Learning and Information Service
What’s available?
The books for geography, marine and
environmental subjects are mainly located on floor 1C,
though throughout your studies you will also need floor 1A
for general environmental management, 1B marine
pollution and coastal planning, 0A for law, and travel &
tourism on 2B.
From the Library Portal search the Library Catalogue
to find out what titles and information types are available.
Enter a few keywords into the search field, or select
to access all aspects of the catalogue,
including Article QuickSearch which lets you to search
for journal articles within a pre-defined set of databases
relating to your subject area. (Sign into the catalogue to gain
full access via top right-hand link on catalogue page).
DVD/Videos
This collection is on Floor 2 and includes TV programmes
and course specific programmes. Many TV programmes
are available online for you to download this means that
you can watch them on a PC as long as you have access
to the internet. Search the library catalogue for your
subject.
Journals, ejournals & magazines
The library subscribes to a number of journal titles relating
to geography, marine and environmental resources.
Most of the titles are shelved on 1C.
Many journals are available in electronic format (ejournal)
check the A-Z list of eJournals / Newspapers on the Library
Portal – this will tell you if it is available electronically and
how to access it.

Databases
Choose the subject area Environment + Geography
from the eRESOURCES drop down list (image on
previous page). Then choose from the ‘Sub Categories’
or select Key Resources or ALL. Click on the name of the
eResource (examples opposite) to start searching.
Alternatively, use CrossSearch to search up to ten
eResource at one time, tick the eResources required and
enter a simple or advanced search. NB. Not all
databases can be cross-searched.
Some databases will give you the fulltext of an article,
others just a short summary (abstract). Use these
icons to see if the fulltext is
available elsewhere or in print.
Passwords:
Off campus make sure that you Log In
using your University username and
password. Some eResources have a
different login. Use to find out access
information and instructions for each
eResource.
Maps and Atlases
There is a collection of atlases, maps and local ordnance survey maps in the Quick
Reference section on floor 1A and a selection of geological maps covering the south coast of
the British Isles located on floor 1B in the large map drawer.
Statistical information
There is a wide selection of statistical data available ranging from general sources such as
Monthly Digest of Statistics to more specialist sources e.g. OECD Environmental Outlook
to 2030, Atlas of Climate Change, Population Trends and Regional Trends some titles
are available in electronic format, check the library catalogue for links or shelf details.

CoastNET http://www.coastnet.org.uk – this site offers a network for the exchange of information,
ideas and expertise in the sustainable management of the coastal and marine environment.
UNEP.Net, the United Nations Environment Network http://www.unep.org/ - a global portal to
environmental information based on themes and regions.
