What’s available?<br />
The books for geography, marine <strong>and</strong><br />
environmental subjects are mainly located on floor 1C,<br />
though throughout your studies you will also need floor 1A<br />
for general environmental management, 1B marine<br />
pollution <strong>and</strong> coastal planning, 0A for law, <strong>and</strong> travel &<br />
tourism on 2B.<br />
From the Library <strong>Portal</strong> search the Library Catalogue<br />
to find out what titles <strong>and</strong> information types are available.<br />
Enter a few keywords into the search field, or select<br />
to access all aspects of the catalogue,<br />
including Article QuickSearch which lets you to search<br />
for journal articles within a pre-defined set of databases<br />
relating to your subject area. (Sign into the catalogue to gain<br />
full access via top right-h<strong>and</strong> link on catalogue page).<br />
DVD/Videos<br />
This collection is on Floor 2 <strong>and</strong> includes TV programmes<br />
<strong>and</strong> course specific programmes. Many TV programmes<br />
are available online for you to download this means that<br />
you can watch them on a PC as long as you have access<br />
to the internet. Search the library catalogue for your<br />
subject.<br />
Journals, ejournals & magazines<br />
The library subscribes to a number of journal titles relating<br />
to geography, marine <strong>and</strong> environmental resources.<br />
Most of the titles are shelved on 1C.<br />
Many journals are available in electronic format (ejournal)<br />
check the A-Z list of eJournals / Newspapers on the Library<br />
<strong>Portal</strong> – this will tell you if it is available electronically <strong>and</strong><br />
how to access it.<br />

Databases<br />
Choose the subject area <strong>Environment</strong> + <strong>Geography</strong><br />
from the eRESOURCES drop down list (image on<br />
previous page). Then choose from the ‘Sub Categories’<br />
or select Key <strong>Resources</strong> or ALL. Click on the name of the<br />
eResource (examples opposite) to start searching.<br />
Alternatively, use CrossSearch to search up to ten<br />
eResource at one time, tick the e<strong>Resources</strong> required <strong>and</strong><br />
enter a simple or advanced search. NB. Not all<br />
databases can be cross-searched.<br />
Some databases will give you the fulltext of an article,<br />
others just a short summary (abstract). Use these<br />
icons to see if the fulltext is<br />
available elsewhere or in print.<br />
Passwords:<br />
Off campus make sure that you Log In<br />
using your University username <strong>and</strong><br />
password. Some e<strong>Resources</strong> have a<br />
different login. Use to find out access<br />
information <strong>and</strong> instructions for each<br />
eResource.<br />
Maps <strong>and</strong> Atlases<br />
There is a collection of atlases, maps <strong>and</strong> local ordnance survey maps in the Quick<br />
Reference section on floor 1A <strong>and</strong> a selection of geological maps covering the south coast of<br />
the British Isles located on floor 1B in the large map drawer.<br />
Statistical information<br />
There is a wide selection of statistical data available ranging from general sources such as<br />
Monthly Digest of Statistics to more specialist sources e.g. OECD <strong>Environment</strong>al Outlook<br />
to 2030, Atlas of Climate Change, Population Trends <strong>and</strong> Regional Trends some titles<br />
are available in electronic format, check the library catalogue for links or shelf details.<br />

environmental information based on themes <strong>and</strong> regions.<br />
