Mathematics During August the Australian Mathematics Awards were held at the school. From Years 7 to 12 there were 223 students who sat for the test. New Music Students Welcome!! If there are any families who are interested in their son joining the instrumental music program, please contact me via email shanem@cbcfremantle.wa.edu.au and I will send through the application form. Instruments that are available to study are: Voice Trumpet (College has an Instrument Hire Program for families) Saxophone (College has an Instrument Hire Program for families) Trombone (College has an Instrument Hire Program for families) Piano Guitar Bass Guitar Drums Cost: $960 for 32 lessons per year. There are many bands and ensembles which students are able to participate in once they are at the appropriate level of performance. There are many opportunities to represent CBC at Festivals, Performance Evenings and College Events. Students receive points for their respective House throughout the year and are able to use some of their performance to complete Service Hours. Christmas Appeal 2012 CHriStiAN SErViCE LEArNiNG CBC Fremantle is now launching its Christmas Appeal This Christmas, Vinnies will spend time helping over half a million people and you can assist. By supporting Vinnies with a donation to the Christmas Appeal, you’ll be helping to provide services which make a real difference to people’s lives; presents for children, basics like food and clothing, practical support for struggling families and emotional support for those who have no-one to turn to. And isn’t that something everyone wants? Please, when you’re thinking about the gifts you plan to give this Christmas, think about a gift to the CBC Fremantle Vinnies Christmas Appeal and help someone change their life. Collections bins are in the College, so please donate. You will make a difference! Mr Garry Hart Service Learning Co ordinator Year 8 retreat On Tuesday, 23 October the Year Eight cohort embarked on their retreat to East Fremantle Football Oval. The aim and purpose of this day was to allow the students to express themselves as well as gain a wealth of knowledge on virtues associated with CBC. Some of the day was spent in small discussion groups of ten or eleven led by the Year Eleven Prefects. These prefects were particularly useful as it enabled the younger students to interact with others who had experienced the same situations that the Year Eights were facing. Some of the virtues that were placed under importance were those of courage, confidence, tolerance, honesty, reliability, determination, perseverance, self-discipline and respect. For each of these topics, a talk was prepared by a prefect and delivered to the whole Year Eight cohort. These were incredible moments when the young students fell absolutely silent and looked to their older peers for guidance and help. After some footy on the oval, the day was brought to an end with each student writing a positive affirmation to every other individual in their group. This was a very proud moment to witness as students offered their encouraging comments to one another. As a whole, the day was a great success with no doubt in the minds of those that run the program, that every young gentleman had left the retreat with a greater knowledge of virtues or a new found way of expressing themselves. Each young Year Eight student made a firm commitment to work on one virtue during Term 4. Father Tony Maher ran a healing service and anointed each student with holy oil as a sign of their commitment into the future. John Hayes Yr 11 House Prefect Special thanks go to the following Year 11 boys for their diligent preparation and commitment to the retreat. I congratulate each of these boys for their enthusiasm and the sharing of their virtues with the Year 8 boys.
