Potpourri of melodies attract hundreds to concerts =
By ART SECONDO
The crowds are getting larger
on the Town Green every
Wednesday evening during the
rammer end residents are saying
that the music and atmosphere
make for an outstanding combination.
Fhe "Music On The Green
and Recreation Department, will
continue through Aug. 28. The
concerts are free and begin at
6:30 p.m. each Wednesday and
As an, additional bonus, just
behind the main bandstand each
week, are dozens of classic cars
The Elks Club is reportedly
planning to .sponsor "pasta
nights" on concert evenings. Actually,
the request by vendors
participate in the concarts was so
overwhelming that the Park Department
had to minimize the
number so that there would be
no pedestrian traffic congestion.
The concerts have become so
popuhr that each week, Cox Cable
community programming
videos the performance and
broadcasts it throughout the
Did anyone ever expect the
average turnout to be about
to 800 persons when the concert
idea was proposed?
"No, not at all," said William
MascL, director of recreation.
Masci recalled that the concert
when we experimented with music
reported that in spite of two recent
cancellations due to weather,
a recent Sunday performance of
more than 700 people.
Limmer has worked closely
with Masci and the Park Commission
It's been a tremendous proieet,"
said Anthony Denorfia,
commission chairman. He
plained that without the financm!
support of more than 15 sponsors,
the concerts probably
couldn't have become a reality.
Town Manager John Velchsel
remembers when the concerts
drew handfuls of people and were
hardly an attraction But now
they are excellent ... the series
Recent rumors that the bank
The CEO added that there
Bowerman said, bank officials
have no idea why the stock rose
