Message from the <strong>JCC</strong> President<br />

Dear Friends,<br />
Thank you for joining us as we turn up the heat for a festive evening full of fun,<br />
entertainment, and an opportunity to eat and drink, then dance it all off! When was the last<br />
time you went all out for chips, <strong>salsa</strong> and dancing? Tonight provides us <strong>with</strong> a fantastic<br />
opportunity to honor a unique group of individuals while having a great time partying the<br />
night away.<br />
<strong>Rockland</strong> County has prospered due to a diverse group of special people that has<br />
strengthened our community. I am talking about tonight’s honorees - Stephen Feibusch,<br />
Richard Goldman, and Community Service Award recipient Frank Borelli, Jr.<br />
I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside of Stephen Feibusch for the past 5 years. We have<br />
also played basketball together and shared coaching experiences at the <strong>JCC</strong>. His tireless<br />
efforts as a board member and health and fi tness committee chairman played an integral role<br />
in allowing the new <strong>JCC</strong> to come to fruition. I tip my sombrero to Stephen and his family.<br />
Richard Goldman has been the treasurer of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> since 2002, chairman of our<br />
budget and fi nance committee, a member of our executive committee, a board member of<br />
the <strong>Rockland</strong> Jewish Community Campus, and a member of the fi nance committee at Nyack<br />
Hospital. Working so closely <strong>with</strong> Rich on virtually all of these boards and committees has<br />
truly shown me how dedicated he is. Rich’s determination to achieve success has been vital<br />
to our community and I am privileged to honor him and his family.<br />
Last, but not least, is a man who defi nes what community service is all about. My fellow<br />
<strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> board member Frank Borelli, Jr. has served and chaired so many boards,<br />
agencies and organizations in <strong>Rockland</strong> that I would need to take up another page. But take<br />
my word for it, Frank, a Clarkstown councilman, has made a positive impact in <strong>Rockland</strong> and<br />
has touched the lives of many. It’s a great pleasure to recognize Frank and his family tonight.<br />
By providing the leadership, building the coalitions <strong>with</strong> other non-profi ts, and developing the<br />
resources needed to meet our community’s evolving needs, <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> is strengthening<br />
our community and helping to change lives thanks to people like Stephen, Richard, and Frank.<br />
But while this is their special night, I would also like to thank our committee chairs and <strong>JCC</strong><br />
staff, who worked diligently behind the scenes to help put on this great show.<br />
On behalf of our entire community and board of directors, I want to say that we are very<br />
fortunate to have such deserving honorees and we thank them and all of our guests who are<br />
here to enjoy this wonderful occasion.<br />

Dear Friends:<br />
“Strengthening Our Community” has been established as our theme for the year…<br />
What does that mean? To me, it means building a strong & vibrant Jewish community by<br />
having all organizations fi nd a way to work together. By working together we all<br />
become stronger. Earlier this year the <strong>JCC</strong> partnered <strong>with</strong> New City Jewish Center at the<br />
presentation of Wallenberg the Musical. All profi ts went to support The Holocaust<br />
Museum and Study Center. In June, we will hold our annual 5k run and 3k walk which will<br />
benefi t Israel projects through the Jewish Federation of <strong>Rockland</strong>. We regularly promote<br />
organization events through e-mail, our program guides, or through fl yer distribution at the<br />
<strong>JCC</strong>. We are committed to strengthening our community!<br />
Our theme this year “strengthening our community” is not only the goal of the <strong>JCC</strong>, it is<br />
also the goal of tonight’s two honorees and community service recipient. I have worked<br />
closely <strong>with</strong> both Rich Goldman and Steve Feibusch for many years. They can always be<br />
counted on for being there for the community. Each of them have given their hearts and<br />
souls to ensure the growth of our <strong>JCC</strong>. Rich has been a terrifi c treasurer who has focused<br />
tremendous effort to ensure that our fi nances are in order. Steve has worked for the last<br />
fi ve years on the development of the Russin Fitness Center as the Chair of the fi tness<br />
committee. I know that I can pick up the phone to call on Rich or Steve for anything and they<br />
will always be there.<br />
Frank Borelli, our community service recipient is also there for the entire <strong>Rockland</strong><br />
community. I have always been impressed <strong>with</strong> Frank’s selfl ess involvement in the<br />
community, whether as past Chair of organizations like Leadership <strong>Rockland</strong> or Past<br />
President and active member at New City rotary, or now as a board member of the <strong>JCC</strong>. Frank<br />
can always be counted on to support the community.<br />
How can you help to strengthen our community? We need each and every one of you to<br />
continue to support our efforts to grow. After the fi rst of the year we will begin a capital<br />
campaign that will require the support of the entire community. Although we are still living in<br />
diffi cult times, I am confi dent that by working together as a community, we will achieve our<br />
goals. Enjoy your evening!<br />

Thank you for joining us at our <strong>JCC</strong>’s “ Chips and Salsa” fall event. It is my privilege, as<br />
Vice President of Fundraising, to present to you this year’s fall Journal in recognition of<br />
our dedicated and most deserving honorees: Stephen Feibusch, Richard Goldman and<br />
community service honoree, Frank Borelli Jr. The Journal represents the generosity of our<br />
community members, <strong>JCC</strong> board members, local businesses, special friends and each of you<br />
who have helped make this event a success.<br />
A special thank you to our Chief Executive Offi cer, David Kirschtel and his special other half,<br />
Elayna. Kudos to our Auction Chair, Stephanie Ripps and the Auction and Journal committee<br />
members: Steve Beldock, Melissa Borelli, Jill Feibusch, Pam Greenspan, Lori Goldman, Dean<br />
and Marcie Myerow, Roberta Leitner, Donna Riley and Steve Rosenzweig. Their combined effort,<br />
along <strong>with</strong> their persistence and stamina, searching the community for innovative and<br />
exciting prizes and silent auction items, ensured the success of this event.<br />
A special thank you to our event chair, Gwen Rosenzweig, who has worked so hard to<br />
make this event successful. Gwen had her hands in everything: the menu, the music, “the<br />
gaming” and even the room set-up and color scheme. We are also very grateful for our generous<br />
hosts who opened up their homes for pre-event cocktail parties which helped ensure that<br />
our attendance was high.<br />
I want to take this opportunity to thank our Fundraising Director, Elena Heydt who is<br />
passionately dedicated to the success of the <strong>JCC</strong>. She makes everything so simple for us. My<br />
personal thanks too, to Lynn Sabat who organized the Journal, Wayne Brown for helping us<br />
market this event and Janice Wertheim and Karen Babat for handling so many details.<br />
Your presence and commitment, as well as the enthusiastic support and rally of our<br />
community, makes it possible for the <strong>JCC</strong> to provide an exciting variety of programs and<br />
events for the <strong>Rockland</strong> community.<br />
Working together we feel a deep personal joy and pride in our <strong>JCC</strong>. Together we can build the<br />

About Our Honorees:<br />
Stephen Feibusch has been a county resident since 1960 and is the president of Sonic<br />
Packaging, a manufacturer of corrugated components and displays, serving the<br />
pharmaceutical, medical, personal care and cosmetic industries. He has been a board<br />
member for eight years and committee chairman of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> for the past fi ve years,<br />
and watched the Jewish community grow and fl ourish for the past forty-plus years.<br />
“Helping to create and perpetuate our Jewish Community Center and its programming is a<br />
goal shared by my entire family,” said Stephen. Stephen and his wife Jill have been married<br />
for 30 years and have three children, Melissa (25), Craig (23), and Brett (18).<br />
Richard Goldman, the son of Holocaust survivors, is a principal and chief fi nancial offi cer<br />
of Stone Point Capital LLC, a private equity fi rm <strong>with</strong> locations in Manhattan and Greenwich,<br />
Connecticut. He has been the treasurer of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> since 2002, chairman of the<br />
budget and fi nance committee of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong>, member of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong>’s executive<br />
committee, board member of the <strong>Rockland</strong> Jewish Community Campus, and a member of<br />
the fi nance committee at Nyack Hospital. Married to Lori for 21 years, the Goldmans live in<br />
New City <strong>with</strong> their two sons Robert (20) and Jared (17), and their faithful dog, Kona.<br />
Town of Clarkstown Councilman, Frank Borelli, Jr. has been a Clarkstown resident since<br />
1967 and is a principal in the Ducey Agency in Stony Point, one of the oldest insurance<br />
agencies in the Hudson Valley.<br />
Frank has been a Board member of <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> since 2007, and has served on boards<br />
and chaired many agencies and organizations in <strong>Rockland</strong>, including Leadership <strong>Rockland</strong>,<br />
Police Chiefs Foundation of <strong>Rockland</strong> County, Rotary Club of New City, St. Thomas Aquinas<br />
College Presidents Council, United Way of <strong>Rockland</strong> County, <strong>Rockland</strong> Community<br />
Foundation, Scout Council of <strong>Rockland</strong>, Boys Scouts Hudson Valley Chapter, National<br />
Multiple Sclerosis Society, Private Industry Council, St. Augustine’s Parish, and the<br />
<strong>Rockland</strong> Division of the March of Dimes. He was honored as the Businessman of the Year<br />
by the Clarkstown Republican Committee in 2004, Businessman of the Year by Meals on<br />
Wheels of <strong>Rockland</strong> County in 2006, and was Leadership <strong>Rockland</strong>’s Leader of the Year in<br />
2007.<br />
“I enjoy serving our community and strive to make the government work for our residents,”<br />
said Frank. “By using my business background, I hope to bring fi scal responsibility to the<br />
Town.”<br />
Frank and his wife Melissa are the parents of three daughters, Amanda (14), Danielle (12),<br />
and Francesca (9). When he has time away from work, Frank enjoys managing his<br />
daughters’ softball team in New City Little League.

OUR MISSION<br />
The <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> is dedicated to the enrichment<br />
and continuity of Jewish life and to the<br />
preservation and celebration of our rich heritage.<br />
The center shall strengthen individual<br />
awareness and connection to the Jewish<br />
community, the state of Israel, and the<br />
community at large through recreational,<br />
physical, educational, social, and<br />
cultural programs.
The <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> is a proud beneficiary agency of<br />
the Jewish Federation of <strong>Rockland</strong> County. Their<br />
allocation has allowed us to expand our programming.<br />
We are grateful and appreciative for their continued<br />
commitment to the <strong>JCC</strong>.<br />
We would like to encourage you to support the 2010<br />
Federation annual campaign. Federation is the<br />
“umbrella” or “firehouse”of the Jewish community<br />
here in <strong>Rockland</strong>. Their mission is to rescue and<br />
resettle Jews in need in <strong>Rockland</strong>, Israel and 63<br />
countries around the globe by identifying needs and<br />
raising funds to support these endeavors.<br />

The <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> salutes the Jewish Federation of <strong>Rockland</strong> County<br />
for identifying a communal need and providing a new leadership<br />
development institute for the entire community. The <strong>JCC</strong> appreciates<br />
the commitment of the three board members, Pam Greenspan, Dean<br />
Myerow, and Stephanie Ripps who are participating in this institute and<br />
will benefit from this training.<br />
The <strong>Rockland</strong> Jewish Reporter, provides information on what is<br />
happening in the news locally and around the world, especially in our<br />
Jewish community. Thank you for the coverage of the <strong>JCC</strong> and its<br />
programs as well as providing the <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>with</strong> advertising in the<br />
newspaper. The <strong>Rockland</strong> Jewish Reporter is fully funded by the Jewish<br />
Federation of <strong>Rockland</strong> County.<br />
The Department of Jewish Education of Federation continues to<br />
educate our community. While hundreds participate annually in the<br />
Night of Jewish learning, close to 100 study together on a weekly basis.<br />
In addition, Hebrew school principals benefit from monthly meetings<br />
and conferences.<br />

SANDLOT STARS provides the missing athletic development component that every child needs and<br />

think for themselves, be creative, and most of all… just play! Our camp features college-age athletic counselors<br />
who are dedicated to teaching the proper fundamentals<br />

It is fantastic that the <strong>JCC</strong> <strong>Rockland</strong> has such wonderful honorees<br />
for this years fall fundraiser.<br />
We are happy to know each of the honorees on a personal basis.<br />
All three honorees are active board members who do vital work<br />
<strong>with</strong>in the organization.<br />
Frank Borelli has served on the board for the past few years and<br />
has taken an active part in many areas as well as adding his<br />
expertise whenever needed.<br />
I fi rst met Stephen Feibusch as a teammate in the <strong>JCC</strong> men’s<br />
basketball league. We also coached together for many years. He<br />
has put in an enormous amount of time and energy to help make<br />
our fi tness center the fi rst class operation that it is. He continues to<br />
work hard for our <strong>JCC</strong> and his dedication is greatly appreciated.<br />
When I joined our board, and the fi nance committee,<br />
Rich Goldman was the treasurer. He worked extremely hard over<br />
the years and we are very fortunate that he continues to serve as<br />
the treasurer. It is a thankless job, but Rich has always watched out<br />
for the fi nancial well being of the <strong>JCC</strong> and this has helped get us<br />
through some very diffi cult times.<br />
