The Seventh International Teletraffic Congress, ITC 7, was held in Stockholm<br />

in <strong>the</strong> new parliament building on June 13—20, 1973, at <strong>the</strong> invitation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Swedish Telecommunications Administration, Telefonaktiebolaget L M <strong>Ericsson</strong>,<br />

Standard Radio & Telefon AB, Svenska AB Philips and Siemens AB. The<br />

first congress <strong>of</strong> this kind was held in Copenhagen in 1955 and <strong>the</strong>y have <strong>the</strong>reafter<br />

been held every third year.<br />

ITC 7 ga<strong>the</strong>red 328 delegates representing 30 countries. Altoge<strong>the</strong>r 130 papers<br />

were presented. This congress was thus <strong>the</strong> largest <strong>of</strong> its kind hi<strong>the</strong>rto, both in<br />

number <strong>of</strong> delegates and in number <strong>of</strong> papers.<br />

The subject-field for ITC is <strong>the</strong> Application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theory <strong>of</strong> Probability to<br />

Telecommunication Research, Engineering and Administration.<br />

The first international teletraffic congress was held in Copenhagen in 1955<br />

at <strong>the</strong> initiative <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ame Jensen, and to a large extent under his leadership.<br />

The choice <strong>of</strong> Denmark as <strong>the</strong> place for <strong>the</strong> first congress was natural, as<br />

modern teletraffic <strong>the</strong>ory had been founded by A. K. Erlang.<br />
