Letters to the Editor Hi Ruth, Thanks for the <strong>mag</strong>. <strong>Canoe</strong>s have come a long way since we used to make them out of corrugated iron and a couple of bits of timber and paddled them in the Whau estuary in New Lynn in the ’50s. We used to spend more time bailing than paddling as the ripply bits on the iron were plugged up with tidal estuary mud, which used to dissolve pretty quick. God, just think how that would be taken these days with protective parents!! Cheers, Ken James Gidday Peter, I’ve been in Fiji for two months sailing and paddling. A fantastic time had by all the crew. We spotted a local fisherman with his corrugated iron canoe at Yalobi Bay, Waya Island, Yasawa Island group. Of course I had to have ago!
