DePaul University looks for students with potential…
Just ask DePaul parent Arlene Mead Stolley.
“As a parent of a son who was not at the top of his high school class, with average SAT scores,
I was concerned that his choices of a good, quality university would be slim,” she said. “When
my son (Blake Wilkinson) was admitted as a freshman in 2001, I was thrilled that a university of
DePaul’s caliber was giving my child an opportunity to succeed at the college level.”
In honor of her son’s graduation in the spring of 2005 with honors from the College of Liberal
Arts & Sciences, Stolley endowed the Arlene Mead Stolley Endowed Scholarship Fund. She
established the scholarship as a thank-you gift to DePaul and as a means for other students to attain
their academic goals. It will be awarded next spring to an anthropology student enrolled in the
department’s Summer Field School. The $50,000 gift is the university’s first endowed scholarship
in anthropology.
Stolley feels it is every parent’s responsibility to contribute to DePaul within their means because
funding provides more opportunities for students, additional programming and better faculty.
“I salute all of the undergraduate students at DePaul,” she said. “In my eyes, they are truly the
unsung heroes.”
